“My son went to Young Brothers in Aspinwall for almost 10 years! He has earned his third degree black belt. Over the time we were there, Mr. and Mrs. Master Norris were absolutely wonderful. They are consistent and professional while also being a lot of fun. My son's self confidence increased as he mastered the skills required to obtain each belt. They also emphasize being a good person with strong values. It was all around a very welcoming and positive experience for all of us!“

5136 Butler St, Pittsburgh
Allegheny Aikido Martial Arts Schools

“The main instructors have combined Aikido experience of over 70 years. They also organize regular seminars, where legendary Aikido instructors teach several classes a day over a weekend, and if you have never been thrown by a 7th dan Sensei, you don't know what you're missing (actually, if these words make sense to you, you probably do).Complete beginners are welcome--you only need to bring comfortable clothes to exercise in. To enter, you go past the sliding gate facing the street, continue forward, and then take a left. The studio door is going to be in front of you. If you see woodworking equipment, you are at the right place; this studio shares a courtyard with Jones Furniture Design.“

Academy Of Martial Arts Martial Arts Schools

“I’ve been going since I was 5 and can openly say it is an amazing place, all of the sensei’s are very nice and patient and are willing to work with your kid no matter what. As long as you or your child is willing to not 24/7 goof off then they will be okay and shouldn’t struggle. Again this place is great and everyone there is polite and all jokes made are in honest teasing by friends, hope to see some new faces soon! -Jordan Tipinski, Little dragon’s instructor :)“

“True Authentic Taekwondo. There is no place I would rather train with than this group and its head instructors. They always push us to be our best. No matter the challenge anything is possible with the right team and teacher and Young Brothers is the best place to learn Taekwondo. You will not only learn to defend yourself, but you become a better person and truly feel welcomed as part of the Young Brothers Taekwondo family.“

1366 Old Freeport Rd, Pittsburgh
Mumon Karate Martial Arts Schools

“One critical aspect of many that I value about Mumon karate is the honesty and purity. It is a not for profit organization with instructors that work hard at deepening their understanding and accuracy of the martial art. These instructors then teach their students with one simple goal: to help each student be the best they can be at a pace appropriate for that individual. I believe most students seeking martial arts instruction would be attracted to this pure delivery of karate instruction, not tainted by a need for profit.Mark W“

“I practiced at Aikido of Pittsburgh for 25 years, until the COVID19 epidemic moved my family out of town. I will always be indebted to Shihan Masutani and her excellent instructors for their dedication to the future of Aikido.“

“Owner/ instructor Jeff Contraguerro has decades of experience as a martial arts instructor and has the real-life background as a former bouncer and tough-man winner to back it up.His son and instructor Daniel also has probably over a decade of experience as a martial artist and instructor and the added experience of college wrestling. These are men who are able to talk the talk and walk the walk. The majority of students have been attending for many years, with their loyalty a testament to Jeff and the quality of his teaching. Jeff and Daniel are firm and naturally garner the students' respect while staying caring, supportive, and approachable.Jeff includes regular sparring, grappling, and physical contact between students which I would argue prepares students much better for real-world self defense than most schools who teach non-contact kicking and punching. If you are looking for martial arts training in the area you owe it to yourself or your kids to give Contraguerro a look.“
