“Its only once in a great while that something happens that makes you realize how great local business owners can be and why they deserve our loyalty and support as customers. I want to thank Jeff Ruland and Sears Hometown Store Ramona for saving my family a world of grief by ending eleven days of misery that had nothing to do with him at all; except that he and his wife own and run Sears Ramona. I live with and take care of my 98 year old mother who has mobility and speech problems. My wife is a former psychiatric nurse who was attacked by a patient and permanently disabled. She is only mobile with constant oxygen. Because I am still unemployed after more than 600 job applications, I take care of them and grow food to supplement our small fixed incomes. We had been saving a long time for a new refrigerator. So when our old refrigerator died Sept. 1, 2013 getting a new one on-line from Sears seemed a great solution. We ordered, we paid and we were confirmed for delivery on Sept 4th. When the old fridge died, we threw away some $600 in rotting food. We moved everything from hallways and rooms so the new larger refrigerator could be moved through them. On the 4th we waited, and waited and waited. Finally at 5PM we called and discovered that someone at Sears had cancelled our order some 20 minutes after we made it and were confirmed, refunded the money but had not called, emailed, texted or said one word about the cancellation. I did get many emails during the wait thanking me for the order, confirming the bonus points for the purchase and asking if I would like a service contract for the new refrigerator... yes the cancelled one. For another seven days we emailed, called and prayed. Finally today I called customer care again and got KENDRA 5074164 who listened to the whole story and said, "Hmm maybe if I call a store local to you we can figure out a solution. Enter Jeff Ruland and Sears Ramona. They got me my refrigerator at the same discount as Labor Day, arranged for it to be delivered tomorrow. Gave me his personal desk phone number and said call me, I'll take care of you personally and he did. Christ's death on the cross is called his Passion (the suffering). Compassion means to feel and share another's suffering. I say whether or not Mr. Ruland is a Christian, he fulfilled the commandment and showed real compassion for my predicament. I will drive to Ramona and make Ramona my home store on-line for Sears goods as long as live here. I sent a notice to all the San Diegans I know on Facebook to support him. We all need businesses and owners like Mr. Ruland and his wife.“
