Rose & William Kim were so incredibly involved in entertaining and teaching our son and his guests. They even had an awesome piñata at the end! Marcella was absolutely incredible with directing the food, decorating and guests. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to have a seamless party that your child will never forget!“

425 Military E, Benicia“My daughter is 6 and has been a student at Vallejo's taekwondo for two years now. It's so amazing to see her progress and grow in the art of taekwondo. They are firm but fair and also allow for a little fun and silliness. I really appreciate the way they teach and work with kids of all ages. This school teaches discipline and respect and accountability which is such a rare thing to find these days. And they are so reasonably priced for what they provide. Kwon Ja Nim is great with the kids without being too firm or too lenient and Maam Debbie takes a personal interest in the kids as well. This class has taught my daughter so much and I highly recommend them especially if you, like me, have a high energy child that needs the outlet. Taekwondo is a real life skill for my daughter and I'm excited to see how much she grows and learns from them.“
“Grandson has learned so much!. Andrew just completed his testing and is now a blue belt! Amazing . Any parent even thinking about putting their child in a Karate class look no further. This is the place!“

1500 S Main St, Walnut Creek“Essence BJJ Walnut Creek is a great gym to train for me as a beginner level. This is a family-operated business, and I always feel welcome when I enter, even when I am anxious or tired. This martial art isn't easy; people who train come from different walks of life and have varying athletic abilities and acumen. Crucially, Professor Vini and his coaches and staff make everyone feel welcome and encourage you to train to the best of your ability, even for practitioners who aren't athletically gifted and slightly older people like me. They also encourage discipline and respect for other students, ensuring that we don't go too hard (or too easy) on the training partner during the specific training, especially if the opponent is of the opposite gender. It is fun to re-learn etiquette and values such as honesty, determination, respect for yourself and others, and honoring those who are more accomplished and know more than you as an adult. I learned to be more minded and understand that there are a lot of things I don't know but I can be taught them with patience and by coming back. Importantly, they carefully moderate the specific training to ensure everyone stays safe and has fun while giving their best. If you are looking for a family-run gym that makes you feel at home and meet some great people while looking for a great workout and new skills, this is your place!“

4330 Clayton Rd, Concord“I'm retired. I live in a fairly safe neighborhood. One evening, I'm walking my dog. I'd say we're only a mile or so from my home. About a hundred yards from us a stranger yells, "Nice dog." I reply, "Thank you." Smiling, he asks, "How much will you sell him for?" Surprised and somewhat flattered, I reply, "He's not for sale." Then with a blank facial expression, I believe he says something like, "Too bad, I might have to take him from you!" Not believing what was said, I said, "Excuse me?" Speaking with more conviction, he responds, "I might have to take him from you." Being street smart, I really don't know if I was more annoyed, stunned or amused. I always try to avoid confrontation because the worst-case scenario can always lead to violence. Now having been around the block a few times, I know that the last thing you do is to ignore a street challenge of confrontation. While walking toward him, I'm sizing him up. He's at least 35 years younger, 3 or 4 inches taller and at least 20 lbs. heavier. I doubt if he's in better shape but if he is, so what. Finally, I'm within arm's length. Even if he has a knife or gun, there's no doubt in my mind. I can take him. Training, preparation with confidence and real-life combat skills for the sometimes not so nice world we live in; that's what you'll get from Gustavo Desperetti, chief instructor and owner of Dogo Krav Maga. Family oriented, you'll find that he genuinely cares about your development and ability to protect yourself and loved ones. If you want straight forward self-defense instruction in a caring, supportive considerate environment, you need to check out Dogo Krav Maga. Gustavo is a Pro's Pro. I rate Dogo Krav Maga "5" because I can't rate it 10. Oh, and by the way, I still have my dog and about a week later, the guy in question walked across my path. I suppose for good reason, he acted as if he didn't see me.“

974 Benicia Rd, Vallejo“I feel super blessed to get to train in the Giron system--directly with GM Mike Giron, son of Leo Giron. GM Giron, Guru Brian, and instructing members gave me a great deal of individual guidance and attention. They really made sure I got the curriculum right. I really enjoy all the historical detail I picked up on the history of escrima in Stockton. OGE aren't just a club, they're a family keeping the Original Giron Escrima system alive. Bahalana.“

“Traditional Tai Chi taught by the best Shi-Fu. The REAL deal. When done correctly, the impact on one's health is amazing. It takes at least a year of hard work and frequent practice before you start seeing changes. Now after almost 2 years my back is stronger, my posture much improved, I feel more energetic, and overall feel YEARS younger! The more you put into your practice the more you get out of it. They are very attentive to the students and always thrive to teach the correct form, breathing, posture and movements, no shortcuts. Shi-Fu Wong is truly dedicated to teaching his art and helping all his students improve. Highly recommended.“

3413 Mount Diablo Blvd, Lafayette“My daughter has never been one to “yay let’s go do a high core physical activity “ kind of girl, so when I told her I wanted her to try a karate class she wasn’t too happy with me. Four months later and after that one class and she’s loving it! She can’t wait for class day and I can see her getting stronger and more and more confident with herself! Sensei Tom is very disciplined and fun with the kids and adults who take the classes. If you have a kid whom you want to really learn how to defend him or herself against anyone trying to harm them, this is the class. Best Sensei ever as my daughter says!“

1516 Solano Ave, Vallejo“Originally, I had heard about Soaring Eagles from a friend, and I was curious about enrolling my children, but then the pandemic struck. Fast forward to four years later and I discovered that Soaring Eagles offers classes through our home school charter, so I called to express my interest and set up a visit. When I called, I spoke to Master Wayne Jones. I could tell right away that he is very business oriented, but friendly. He invited us to come to the dojang to watch a few classes to help us decide if this would be the place for us. At first, I had trouble finding the parking lot since Google Maps will tell you to turn right instead of making a slight right down the one way street behind the building. When I finally did park and enter the dojang, we were greeted with wide smiles and invited to sit anywhere to watch a class. There were two main classes at the time, one in the front room for children 7-12 and one in a back room for children 3-6. Miss Aliah teaches the Little Eagles with the assistance of various Black Belts. She is a natural with the kids. She gets down to their level, explains the moves and kicks in a way that children can easily understand and most importantly, she is patient but stern. Kids will sometimes get out of sort, but she maintains a level of order and discipline. The kids know very well when it is play time and when it is learning time. The Basic Children's class for 7-12 year olds was being taught by Master Wayne and Mr. Boone, a fellow Black Belt. I was impressed that even though the class had well over 20 kids, they were able to make sure that everyone lined up correctly, uniforms were neat and belts were tired. Master Jones has a loud powerful voice that commands attention and he is also firm yet compassionate with his instruction. The school is run by Master Wayne Jones and his wife Mrs Master Adrienne (6th Dan), along with the assistance of their daughters Ms. Aiesha (4th Dan), Ms. Aliah (3rd Dan), and fellow Black Belt Mr. Boone (4th Dan). I was highly impressed that their entire family consists of black belts as this is exactly what I want for my children. Not only are all the children black belts, but so are the grandchildren. This is truly impressive! There are many class times to chose from during the week and you can have an A/B schedule where you come every other day, two days a week. Classes run from 4:45-8pm (the late night class is the adult class from 7:15-8 am). They also offer different levels of membership which includes the Black Belt Club-( 2 regular classes and one specialty class a week that usually includes weapons and sparring training) and Master's Club- (Attend as many classes you want in a week, including a specialty weapons class on Thursday night; and targeted weapons training on Saturday consisting of bo staff, nunchuks, escrimas stick, forms (Taegeuk), tricks and kicks and combat weapons). You will also have an opportunities to compete in tournaments, even one hosted by the dojang on Mare Island in the Spring. The tournaments are a good way to test your skills and see taekwondo applied in real life applications. I also appreciate that you don't just learn taekwondo. We learn hapkkido, jiu jitsu, self defense and how to fall properly. If you take Def Con with Master Adrienne, you will learn how to stretch and strengthen your body in ways you never knew you could. In Ms. Aliah's trick and kicks class, I have learned some kicks that aren't just impressive, but also useful in sparring. In Ms. Aiesha's sparring class, you train with the best of the best and learn how to hone your craft. You also learn about community. I have had so many people show up and support me through different events and I have in turn shown up and supported others. This is what a true community represents. Something else that impressed me about Soaring Eagles is the diversity in the dojang. Many cultures, ethnicities and faiths were represented in the different familes and everyone had a mutual respect for one another. I was sold. Now over a year later, my seco“

4115 Concord Blvd #40, Concord“Master Jones it's a great human being. He is an inspiration and I have known him for about 10 years. I have 3 kids in his Taekwondo classes and all my kids admire him and loves going to the classes. Who ever has a chance to meet him or talk to him is a lucky person. I highly recommend signing up for his classes 100%“
“Pros -Amazing classes for kids. I have a 6 year old attending. The instructors always talk bout respect and other topics us parents try to instill . - exercises that keep kids engaged - instructor to kid ratio is great always 5 or more black belts keeping kids engaged - learn some Korean :) - I see a confidence increase after 6 months. It's a great lesson for them once they earn their belts. And they have to earn their belts they arnt just given. - make up classes are simple and easy. Cant make the normal time of class? Just go to another class. No pre booking needed. Makes things so simple. -Master Kim and all the black belt instructors are so helpful and doing an amazing job. I can't stress that enough they are full of energy every single class. They arnt going through the motions they love what they do. - pizza, Safeway, sushi, Starbucks all near by. Con - parking depending on time can be tight - most all parents stay and watch. Some chairs are available. Not uncommon for there to be too many parents and folks wait outside. - I remember looking for info on prices and times on the website and it was confusing. Just contact them they will be there to answer all your questions and book an intro class get to know you and child. - price is high. However, experience putting kids in dance, gymnastics, swim, art and soccer none of those sports go over core values that any and all parents would want there child to know.“
