I found her through good old-fashioned internet research. And I'm so happy I did. I was looking for a good facial for my sensitive skin, and I found so much more: a true artist.An appointment with Leila is a curated experience that begins well before your appointment time. I knew Leila was serious when she asked me about my skin before my first appointment and requested close-up photos. As a lifelong eczema sufferer obsessed with skincare, I appreciated her sincere interest in my skin. When I arrived at her office, I settled in for a botanical journey that left my face feeling and looking the best it's ever been. No joke.Leila comes from generations of artisan-aestheticians who are passionate, meticulous and conscientious about wholesome and effective skin care. Her cleansers, moisturizers and other potions are lovingly prepared beforehand based on each individual client's skin-- from homegrown ingredients, as well as those derived from hard-to-access sources. When I arrived at my first appointment, she had an array of items to apply to my face, all custom-made for my skin. For each layer, Leila explained what she was applying and how it worked. I truly enjoyed hearing about the benefits of the ingredients, and I even enjoyed how tasty some of them were haha (like the chocolate and coffee mask).I think it's important for Leila to educate her clients, in addition to treating them, and her passion for improving her clients' skincare is genuine. You can see it on her face while she's working on yours. Leila was like a painter, painting my skin with her palette of goodness, then stepping back to admire her work and do touch-ups.After my facial, Leila offered some products that would be well-suited for my skin, a couple of which I gladly purchased since they aren't available elsewhere. (Due to the freshness and integrity of her products, they aren't offered online since she can't guarantee quality control. But I believe she will make a certain product to order, upon request.).Since that first appointment, I have been back to Leila numerous times, and I have sent my parents and boyfriend to her as well. For me, a visit with Leila is a truly rejuvenating experience in so many ways. She's an artist, a therapist, a wellness expert, a friend. It's taken me this long to write a review... which I felt I've owed her for awhile. Perhaps subconsciously, I wanted to keep her a secret? Seriously, though... I would never be that selfish with a gift like Leila. Deep down, I know it's because I wanted to take my time to articulate how special Leila and her art is. The price let's you know it's boutique as well. I was the only customer in the salon and had her undivided attention. That day I had my daughter with me and Tina was extremely nice to her, which meant a lot to me. If you want real results then you have to spend a few bucks. Kind of the hard reality of life. “A few weeks before coming home for Thanksgiving, I off hand mentioned to my dearest mother that I wanted to get a haircut soon. A day later I get a text reading "your hair appt is with Michael at Mikell Coiffure's 11/18 at 9:45am. He doesn't take new clients but he is seeing you!" ahahahahaha gotta love Moms.I arrived right on time as I know my mom would have had my head on the guillotine if I was late. I walked up the steps directly adjacent to Sugarfish, and opened the door into a breathtaking French-Moroccan inspired interior with an ocean view peaking through the window.The receptionist greeted me with a huge smile as I checked in and asked me if I wanted coffee or some water to which I obviously said "both hehe" and then asked if I wanted still or sparkling water. God I loved being pampered sometimes. But the answer to that question is always sparkling. Always.After getting my hair washed, I got in the comfy salon chair and a silk green robe draped over me. I felt like a king in here ahahaha.Michael then comes out in a white tank top under a light green button down, hermes bracelet on the wrist, multi color golden gooses on the feet, all tied together by a pearl necklace that he got off amazon (allegedly). Why am I giving you all these details? I have no idea I'm just trying to set the scene.I walked into Mikell Coiffure, hair down to my shoulders looking like "a sheepdog" as my father so eloquently puts it. But I think I look like a rockstar heheheheh.Anyways, I didn't really know what I wanted to do. After explaining to Michael I kinda want to go back to my clean cut choir boy look but I'm conflicted because I have been growing my hair out for awhile and I do like the Rockstar, or Sheepdog, look, he asked how long I'd had it long. "About 2 years..." I said with my tail between my legs. "Okay let's go clean cut" with the confidence of a 2017 Tom Brady. DONE!Michael is the most engaging hair stylist or barber I have ever been to, as he is so genuinely passionate about his work that I don't think he could hide it if he tried. I got insights into the beauty industry, how he decided on the Salon name, stories of his travels to Morocco that inspired the interior for Mikell Coiffure, and much more. You can teach many things in life, but passion isn't one of them.This passion, in my experience, leads directly to success and is why he can't take any new clients, unless you know Nancy Novo ahahahaha big Nanc is the plug!As for the haircut, I will leave you with a short anecdote:I sent before and after pictures to my girlfriend, who in some circles is known as "The Ice Queen." She laughed at the before one and hearted the after one. A compliment, in the highest of regards, coming from her.BUT ACTUALLY THIS HAIRCUT FR CHANGED MY LIFE!
