“A few weeks before coming home for Thanksgiving, I off hand mentioned to my dearest mother that I wanted to get a haircut soon. A day later I get a text reading "your hair appt is with Michael at Mikell Coiffure's 11/18 at 9:45am. He doesn't take new clients but he is seeing you!" ahahahahaha gotta love Moms.I arrived right on time as I know my mom would have had my head on the guillotine if I was late. I walked up the steps directly adjacent to Sugarfish, and opened the door into a breathtaking French-Moroccan inspired interior with an ocean view peaking through the window.The receptionist greeted me with a huge smile as I checked in and asked me if I wanted coffee or some water to which I obviously said "both hehe" and then asked if I wanted still or sparkling water. God I loved being pampered sometimes. But the answer to that question is always sparkling. Always.After getting my hair washed, I got in the comfy salon chair and a silk green robe draped over me. I felt like a king in here ahahaha.Michael then comes out in a white tank top under a light green button down, hermes bracelet on the wrist, multi color golden gooses on the feet, all tied together by a pearl necklace that he got off amazon (allegedly). Why am I giving you all these details? I have no idea I'm just trying to set the scene.I walked into Mikell Coiffure, hair down to my shoulders looking like "a sheepdog" as my father so eloquently puts it. But I think I look like a rockstar heheheheh.Anyways, I didn't really know what I wanted to do. After explaining to Michael I kinda want to go back to my clean cut choir boy look but I'm conflicted because I have been growing my hair out for awhile and I do like the Rockstar, or Sheepdog, look, he asked how long I'd had it long. "About 2 years..." I said with my tail between my legs. "Okay let's go clean cut" with the confidence of a 2017 Tom Brady. DONE!Michael is the most engaging hair stylist or barber I have ever been to, as he is so genuinely passionate about his work that I don't think he could hide it if he tried. I got insights into the beauty industry, how he decided on the Salon name, stories of his travels to Morocco that inspired the interior for Mikell Coiffure, and much more. You can teach many things in life, but passion isn't one of them.This passion, in my experience, leads directly to success and is why he can't take any new clients, unless you know Nancy Novo ahahahaha big Nanc is the plug!As for the haircut, I will leave you with a short anecdote:I sent before and after pictures to my girlfriend, who in some circles is known as "The Ice Queen." She laughed at the before one and hearted the after one. A compliment, in the highest of regards, coming from her.BUT ACTUALLY THIS HAIRCUT FR CHANGED MY LIFE! “I met Marisol about 12 years ago. Back then, she was doing hair out of her home. I went to her that first time and she worked magic on my hair! I had done my own highlights prior. She fixed my mistakes and made my orangey streaked hair look natural and healthy again! I usually go see her and have no idea what I want and let her do her magic. I like that she is able to create a great look for me without me having to tell her what to do! She's a professional in her craft and knows what will look good on her clients. I can always count on Marisol to get me in quickly and work wonders on my hair. I have sent several clients to her. My sister has stated many times to me that the cut and style she got from Marisol was the best she had ever gotten and that her own hairstylist couldn't duplicate the look! Her studio is small and inviting. She does great work and a great friend! I joke that she has been the longest/best relationship that I have ever had--but it's true! She makes me look and feel beautiful every time! The photo below is of the most recent highlighting that I had done. I had let my highlights grow out for a year and wasn't doing anything to my hair other than cuts. She made it look natural and used a new technique so that the highlights still got me back to being blonde without being obvious! I love it! Seriously--she's awesome all around!“

“Bardot is awesome, I called up and not even sure who I spoke to, but amazingly receptive to my needs and really listened to what I was in need of with my hair, I explained my current hair issues (Im 50 thinning hair but wanted blonde again and had an issue with my hair turning brassy and or damaged by treatments...the color just had not been right for a while so I went about 6 months without highlights and was READY ) I was scheduled with Lila and I knew in a moment that this was my lucky day! Sweet, kind, fun, and an excellent colorist. Attentive to my needs, conservative in using color and honestly super accommodating to all my stories about my hair and my (what I feel like is) high maintenance requests! Im beyond stoked with my beautiful blonde highlights....just enough and never went through the ORANGE Brassy stage (like I had been experiencing)! My hair feels healthier than ever, and I cant wait to come back for a root blend (maybe she calls it something else...but she really knew what my hair needed then and in the future). My daughter is going in this weekend (if she can get in) and I felt great saying any of the stylists there are amazing if you cant get in Lila as when I was at Bardot (another thing I loved) was how highly Lila spoke about all the stylists and their skills, good vibes, and in general attentive and accommodating customer service. I appreciated that on top of the whole awesome experience, as you can really feel that when you are there. Its a cool place, with experienced and skilled stylists supporting each-other and Im all about the good vibes!
