“I saw Ellie yesterday after lunch at Comelones Tacos. Her prices are 75 dollars for a haircut. She was prompt and was serving two people when I saw her. My appointment was at 12 noon and that is when I sat in her chair. The salon itself is very small with one chair for waiting clients. There were three stations and all three ladies including Ellie looked like true professionals. I didn't see any chatting or joking but complete attention to their clients except for Ellie who checked her cellphone several times and also talked on her cellphone while cutting my hair. Since I paid 90 (after a 15 dollar tip) for a 22 minute service, I felt a little cheated. Ellie washed my hair for five minutes from 12:00 to 12:05. At 12:22, I was outside getting into my car which meant that my haircut was 17 minutes. 90 dollars for a 17 minute haircut just doesn't feel right. My haircut was very basic, a few layers in the back and I didn't really see much layers framing my face which she promised. I would have liked a little more detailed framing. I will see how my hair grows out but I am unsure I will come back. Also, Ellie doesn't take credit cards so I had to pay her cash which she appreciated.“

I gave her all my notes from the trial about what I liked and didn't like and on the wedding day she took those notes absolutely nailed it. “Im not the best at remembering to take care of my skin, but after visiting Maddie, getting a relaxing and moisturizing facial, and getting some skin care tips from her i feel rejuvenated. She was super welcoming and nice. Has very nice decor at her studio. Clean and relaxing. Was professional and handled with appropriate care when giving me a facial and lower back wax. I ended up having extra time and got a nose wax too. Ive heard nose waxes were sometimes painful but when Maddie did it i was surprised how well it worked and how un-painful it was. Well below my pain expectation. I was very pleased and will defiantly come back. She told me about all the services she provides from brows to lashes to just about any waxing service u want. 10/10 would recommend.“

“Pheakdey is amazing. I've followed her from a previous salon in Oakland (where I live) to her studio at Sola in El Cerrito. Although she used to be located 2 blocks from me, the distance won't stop me from using her for all of my hair care needs! It's hard to find a hair stylist that you trust. She dyes my roots every 7 weeks and cuts my hair every 14 weeks. She knows exactly what I like and I always leave extremely satisfied. She's also done eyelash extensions for me that last for a long time, and the experience was very peaceful and relaxing compared to other places. “I've FINALLY found my Bay Area stylist and salon! After shopping around for the past 6 years, I've settled in with Alex for cuts and color this year and I'm so relieved. I visited first for her to correct color I disliked that I'd had done elsewhere; and then to correct a cut I disliked that I'd had done elsewhere; and twice now for regular maintenance. I'll be back again.

I grew up a natural blonde; in my 20s and early 30s my hair started darkening to the point that people who'd known me forever thought I was blonde, while people I'd just met thought I was brunette; and then I had a baby: after postpartum hair loss, my look rapidly turned to a dull mousy brown-grey. So when I go in for color, I'm just trying to turn the clock back a decade—subtle, natural, convince everyone else I look like I imagine I look, but like you didn't do anything at all—easy ;)

Anyway, Alex nails it. I've tried boosting my old sun highlights with three other stylists over the years, and none came close. Between appointments with Alex I half convinced myself I'd magically turned into a natural blonde again. My mom thought so too!

Also, not critical to me but a plus: the salon is nice and stylish without feeling overdone, and I appreciate that I don't feel pressured to be chatty when I'm tired. All together, exactly what I'm looking for.“
