“There's nothing better than word of mouth when it comes to remodeling. After all, you have to pack your stuff, as if you're moving, leave it for a (hopefully) set period, surrender your keys, and hope for the best.

You hope that the contractor you hired is professional, courteous, has an eye for home design, color selection and matching, a good understanding of functionality as well as looks. You hope that the contractor you selected will not get you in trouble with the neighbors, with the neighborhood. But most of all, you hope that when you get back to your place, you are going to find it way better than the way you left it.

You want to be involved every step of the way, but you also want to be able to trust the professionalism of the people you hired. After all, you work in a completely different industry, and your own knowledge about hardwood floors, paint, bathroom, showers, leveling, and other interesting stuff is limited at best.

Friends we trust recommended Miki and Julie. We met with them. Right away we felt a connection. Julie is the interior designer. Miki is the project manager. Julie was able to slowly but surely extract from us what we really wanted, and model it. When she was done, we knew exactly what it is we were getting. Once we agreed on all, floors, wall and ceiling paint, bathroom tiles, vanity, counter, mirrors and lighting, Miki took the keys and the project started.

Miki committed to time and schedule, and was able to keep it for the most part. Truth be told, if it wasn't for the bathroom counter, which wasn’t at his control, it would have finished earlier than planned.

But as I said before, the “wow” effect is when you open the door for the first time, and your eyes go over the results. Then you say "wow" using your inside voice, then the outside voice. Then you try to remember what this place looked like before, and you realize three things: you can't, you don't want to, and it doesn't matter. It is great, wonderful, and this is the way it always was, or should have been.

“We had a great experience with Johnson and Sons Construction (JASC) on our extensive remodel. Their team is knowledgeable, considerate, and quite competent. Our remodel entailed removing/adding walls and plumbing, extensive electrical improvements, all new millwork, doors, flooring, custom cabinetry, quartz countertops, plumbing and light fixtures, tilework, paint and wallpaper. Despite unforeseen complications (unknown pluming, structural and ventilation issues in our older building), JASC bent over backwards to keep the project moving forward. “Eastside Kitchen & Bath took our old bathroom and gave us the bathroom of our dreams! We had a really bland, poorly utilized bathroom that hadn’t been updated in 25 years. EKB helped us maximize the space with tons of storage, a beautiful shower, and a full wall of tile that makes the space so unique. We loved everyone we worked with at Eastside but our project manager Alex really made the project seamless. He kept everything on schedule, was so communicative, and solved every problem before it came up and then let us know the plan to resolve the issues. We ended up adding on multiple additional projects with EKB because they were so easy to work with including swapping all our interior doors, redoing all our upstairs baseboards, and painting the exterior of our house. All the work was lovely and everyone from their team was polite, communicative, and hard working. We picked a lot of small tiles which meant the tilers, Sean and Jeff, were here for several weeks and they did beautiful work.
