“After watching many episodes of Dr. Dereks "Live it fit" program on tv I could tell that Derek really knew his stuff and was dedicated and professional. Getting close to retirement I knew that if my wife Lynn and I didn't change our lifestyle we would spend our retirement in the waiting room at the doctors office and in line at the pharmacy.After our initial consultation in May 2019 we knew we made the right decision. We work out three times a week and love it. The trainers do all the thinking for us (unlike a gym where it's up to you to figure it out) and are always encouraging us. Derek is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to fitness, eating properly, and even how to sleep properly and he is always willing to share this. I knew things were going well when early on I was able to tie my shoes and walk up the stairs without huffing and puffing and I was able to start using the unused holes on my belt! Lynn and I both lost about 40 pounds in about 6 months and have been able to maintain it ever since. We both feel great and have way more energy than ever! I've bought clothes sizes that I haven't fit into for 30 years! I'm really excited that I could wear my favorite sport jacket that I bought at Riverside Mens Shop in the mid '80s! Needless to say going to Dr Derek has changed our lives and we are so grateful for it! If you need to change directions in your life make an appointment to see Derek. You'll never regret it.It's now been three years since we started and the weight is still off and we both feel great! Investing in ourselves has been paying big dividends! I can't imagine where we'd be if we didn't make the decision to start coming here three years ago. We have three new trainers and they're amazing! Although I train one on one with her, the other trainers, Jill and Savanah, and the people they train make the environment inclusive. “Location, location. Best part of my new membership is that I can use two clubs, depending on where I am in the suburbs on a given day, as needed. I've used the Transit Rd club several times now. However, I joined at the Amherst club right after the New Year. Couldn't pass up the great rate. They make it affordable. No excuses to work out now! I especially like the group classes, at both clubs. Good instructors for cardio and abs, yoga and Zumba. Motivating me to get to the gym and make exercise part of my routine at least three times a week. No waiting around to use the equipment, they have plenty available. What I also like is the mix of members at both locations - young and old, men/women, cross cultural, folks with a variety of athletic abilities/fitness levels. If it was a gym for "model types" or Barbie dolls, as the name LA Fitness seems to give that connotation, I'd not be in LA by a long shot! Maybe they should call it Buffalo fitness??“
“The JCC is a clean and family friendly facility, just right for my needs of a winter place to workout. It's convenient, there is plenty of parking and the entry is secure. Members are issued a fob to use to enter the facility. The front desk person almost always greets us. There are plenty of machines, and many treadmills and stationary bikes - seldom out of order. Spray containers of disinfectant and loads of white wash clothes abound for members to wipe down equipment. I feel obliged to note that I was duly unimpressed by the group fitness class I attended. On my first visit, the instructor was curt and unwelcoming, barking at me that I wouldn't like the class, in front of the class. She never met me. Knew nothing about my abilities nor interest. The classmates were kind and told me I'd get "used to her". Ah. No. No. No; wrong on so many levels. Especially when a newbie comes to class, who might be self conscious or introverted or scared to attend an exercise class. People will never forget how you made them feel. (Said Maya Angelou) It is a joy to see people of all ages and abilities using the machines. I've seen elders on the bikes and tweens on the treadmills. Wee ones stroll by from the daycare area to play in their own area apart from the adults. There are large tvs and music is also piped in. It feels like a completely non-judgmental environment, and aside from the group class encounter, it's my kind of place.“
“I went in to check out the gym before joining. I really liked the environment. I didn't feel intimidated like most other gyms make me feel. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was ample equipment to use and it was clean. I will be joining after my recovery from surgery.“
