“If you are seeking a personal trainer and live in the Hoboken/Weehawken/Union City area I highly recommend J Train. Over the last few years I've taken classes/worked out on and off in the area - Orange Theory, F45, Pilates, Yoga and even had a trainer come to my building most recently. If you have a child and busy work schedule, training scheduling is a big deal. It's the main reason I had to cut the cord on places like Orange Theory because the wide window to cancel just didn't work for me. J Trains process to schedule sessions a week out based on what you have going on works very well for me. They still have a cancel window but every week is a reset and he works with you and the rest of his clients based on availability. Now on to the more important part - the work out. While I did like the convenience of having a trainer come to my building, I see higher value in going to their studio. All of the equipment is ready to go so you jump right in the second you arrive. All training is 1 on 1. The trainers are professional, they course correct every step of the way, and explain what muscles you are working and why. Finally, I do like the fact that this is a small business that has been a part of the Hoboken community for a number of years. The owner lives in the area, and at times partners with other local businesses to either support local charities, or help promote those other businesses.“

I encourage anyone who is slightly interested to try it out.I took advantage of Wahlberg Week, which is a twice-a-year promotion all F45 clubs do where you can try 7 classes for $7. Basically free. After completing 6 of those classes, I wish that I had found this place sooner.What sets those place apart from other workout studios are the coaches and community aspects. I picked up on it right away. The coaches are familiar with all members and know them by name. They quickly saw that I was a new face and learned my name. I was getting coached right away like I was part of the team!If you’re not familiar with how F45 works, definitely look that up. You can find that anywhere. The movements are functional and often challenging! But I want to give most of my review to raving about these high-quality coaches.The coaches at F45 North Paramus are TOP NOTCH! After one week I remember many names…Michelle, Nick, Dani, Marissa, Jenny, Drea, Felicia, Rakeesh….they all have such command of these movements. They’re all committed and dedicated to helping their members. Try a class and see for yourself! They fly around the room during workouts and help each person, adding a level of personal coaching to the classes that helps you improve your form!During each class I took, I had a “mini one-on-one” session with each coach where they took time to show me a movement I wasn’t doing correctly, watch me do it, and help me fix my form. “Corey has been my trainer for 6 months now. I can’t say enough great things about him - but I’ll give it a shot on here. First, he’s just a great trainer who knows what he is doing and will help you with your fitness goals. He designs your workouts and supports you both within his gym and outside his gym. He customized a plan for me, keeps track of all my work outs, and adjusts as necessary. He also helped with nutrition questions and advice. But I think most importantly is, Corey is just a great guy. He makes you feel comfortable and engaged and is a joy to spend an hour with. I would highly recommend giving him a shot!Also, as a side note - I was someone who used to try all of the gym class fads - from CrossFit to F45 to a lot of the places around town. What I finally realized was - you just need to lift something heavy, use the right form, start eating better, and stick to it. “I joined Thunder Fitness about 3 weeks ago. I signed up to do the 6 week challenge. The challenge includes unlimited access to classes as well as a weekly meeting with a nutritionist. I’m only half way through and I had no idea how life changing this experience would be. If you’re like me and have struggled on and off with weight, if you’ve tried every faddy, toxic diet then you CANNOT unlearn dieting by yourself. It’s impossible. Over the past three weeks I’ve wanted to fall back into skipping meals, cutting out entire food groups, counting and weighing everything. But I haven’t and I’ve lost TEN lbs. TEN and my body is changing. The workouts are hard, but they’re 45 mins and if I can do it, you can. You don’t even have to think, you’re going to get a full body workout out that’s been designed to work all muscle groups, paving the way for a great shaped healthy body, little by little in a HEALTHY way. Even the workouts I was doing were WRONG. Lifting so heavy I could barely move after or hours of cardio. I also worked in a gym for 6 years, have been a member of every online bootcamp and in person fitness trend. It’s motivating to see the same group give or take most days, the instructors are insanely awesome (Tracey and Austin). The owner Jeremie is so great and honest. And lastly I need to talk about someone really cool. Pam! Pam is a nutritionist and trainer. In her classes she gives a mantra and a game changing tip. Today she talked about embracing the process, that we’ll get to our destination if we enjoy the journey. I really needed to hear that this morning, it completely changed my mind set. She’s taught me how to breathe when performing exercises… I didn’t know that breath work could propel a workout in such a way. Again I worked in a gym for 6 years and no one told me. I couldn’t do it alone. I thought I could. I respect Pam’s nutrition plan so much, for the first time I’m allowing myself to eat, I’m never hungry. I’ve spent my life being hungry. I really recommend this place with my whole heart! Thanks Thunder Fitness, I’ve been needing this knowledge and motivation since I was about 12 years old.“

I found the chain gyms were formulaic and only focused on general hands-off guidance at a premium price. I was looking for very specific training focusing on teaching me how not to hurt myself again. José at Prime Fitness met and exceeded my expectations. He provided one on one guidance, handholding and encouragement. I can still hear him yelling "YES" when I did something correctly!
