He offers a lot of flexibility in his approach and goes at the pace that works for me. The environment at Empower is also very welcoming. The space is bright and open and with the focus on individuals working with trainers, I feel less self conscious and more able to focus on my practice.“

4603 Hillsborough Rd Suite C, Durham“I’ve tried various plans before and ended up quitting within a week, but Ikaika is truly different. I had various injuries in the past and I really have to be very cautious when trying new workouts. But, Coach Einar has been really supportive and yes, this guy really knows what he is doing. I’m now 3 weeks into the program, and the changes in my body are already visible. I lost 4 lbs in just the first 4 days with the diet plan + gym sessions, and the progress has only continued since then. Not only am I noticing a leaner physique, but my energy levels have also improved significantly. Finally getting some results I’ve been looking for, and I couldn’t be happier with my progress. Highly recommended!“

719 Broad St, Durham“Erica at The Method is SUPERB. In just a short, six month period, her hour-long twice/week sessions have helped me achieve the goal of building muscle mass while losing weight. In fact, I’ve lost at least one inch off my waist(!) and grown significantly stronger. In addition, the health benefits of Erica’s training regimen are palpable: increased stamina, faster runs, improved stability. Never thought I would have so much fun lifting weights, but Erica makes it possible!“

105 Hood St #4, Durham“I found out about this place through physical therapy but then started to go to Ryan for personal training with my wife. I really enjoyed the program he designed for us, simple and very effective. Then I got pregnant, Ryan and his new colleague Amber modified my workouts through out the entire pregnancy. I felt amazing till the end, worked out on Friday and gave birth on Monday. Highly recommend working out during pregnancy, I felt strong during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Nothing prepares you for the amount of back strength needed for carrying a human inside and outside your body, I don’t know how people do it without having muscle strength. Thank you Ryan and Amber!“

124 Latta Rd, Durham“Update: I have now been attending Crossfit classes at North Durham CrossFit for a little over a year, and I haven't slowed down at all! A few months in, I upgraded my membership so I could attend more often. This week, I got to participate in a competition. I've found not only better fitness and more confidence but also a great community of supportive people. If you're on the fence about starting, you should give it a try, regardless of your current fitness level or experience.I've been going to this gym for about two months, and it's been a great experience! I had never done any CrossFit or weight lifting before, and the coaches were great about helping me learn the ropes and jump in. The other members have been welcoming and supportive as well. Special shout out to Coach Ewan for patiently explaining all the movements to me so many times and always being helpful with feedback! I've always struggled with establishing a consistent work out routine and staying motivated, and now I actually look forward to my CrossFit classes. I definitely recommend giving it a try!“

1450 Country Ln, Durham“I love working out with Jen! I haven't had luck with fitness trainers in the past, but Jen's 30-minute sessions are something I really look forward to each week! They're challenging enough for me, and we very gradually increase intensity with each session. They're never so intense that I dread going back. Jen will make sure she's training you at an appropriate level. I appreciate her kindness and flexibility with me so much. The bonus is you're not working out in a crowded gym!“

404 Hunt St #135, Durham“Such a great community. Every class I have taken has really pushed me and seems adoptable to every strength level. Highly recommend! Chan knows every name that walks through her door. All the instructors are skilled, professional, and fun. I have several gyms closer to my house but this one is absolutely worth the 15 minute drive.“

1000 Hackberry Ln, Durham“I cannot say enough good things about Stewart! Doctors had previously told me there was nothing they could do and even started questioning if "I really was in that much pain." A friend referred me to Wholistic Health Studio and I'm so glad they did. Stewart really listens and works to find a solution to your problem. He will always be honest if he can or can't help, he helps you get a better understanding of your issue, and he gives you things you can do to help improve your situation (i.e. exercises or stretching). He has significantly helped me and improved my quality of life. Sabrina works in the office and is very responsive to appointments and changes. She's always willing to help you with scheduling and billing questions. I high recommend Wholistic Health Studio!“

3515 Witherspoon Blvd #101, Durham“What an awesome gym! I was in Durham over an extended period of time so purchased passes to attend classes here. The hotel had a gym but it’s much more motivating and fun to be with other people. I highly recommend you give them a try, if I lived locally, I would be a member. Being 48, I was probably a little older than the average member but it didn’t matter. The other members and coaching staff were great. The coaching staff were extremely welcoming and personable but also professional. They pushed just the right amount and really helped with my form. While I was there I observed people that were newer to working out and the coaches met them where they were. No judgement at all! Thanks F45!!“

“Why you need this concealed carry class (don’t worry I’ll get to the martial arts later)- Buckle in friends cuz I got a lot to say. Can you open carry in NC? Duh. But can you carry on school grounds? What about during an active shooter? Do you know what the proper sight picture is to even aim your gun correctly? Chances are, you weren’t 100% certain of these answer- that’s why you need this class. You not only learn applicable laws, fundamentals of shooting, how to stay out of jail by not being another gun-toting barrel chested idiot with an IQ of a mcchicken, but you learn that you’ve probably unknowingly broken a law or two because you were uninformed. Spoiler, the law doesn’t allow “didn’t know” as a defense. The instructors are phenomenal and extremely professional and the environment is stellar to learn in. You got range anxiety? Join 95% of the population. Ive been shooting for over ten years and I still get nervous. They take the time here to make sure you know what you’re doing and you feel confident and good to shoot at the range to qualify. Managing a lethal weapon is not a game, we see it on the news all the time. Learn the proper way to manage it. As for the martial arts they offer, just do it. Atleast try it. You got mobility issues? They lead you through stretching. You got a bad back? Oh I‘m a bad nights sleep away from popping a disc but I can manage this without pain because they teach safety and comfortability. You‘re nervous you won’t fit in? It’s the least egotistical environment you’ll find for martial arts, promise. Think you’re too weak? That’s why you need to come learn technique. It’s a very small group so 1 on 1 training is a given. Obviously, it can be costly, true. But I genuinely ask you, do you want to walk around in confidence knowing youre actively improving your health and fitness, you gain a new community of friends, and you know how to defend yourself when you’re in line at Popeyes and the deadbeat dad in the white cut off shirt and beer gut decided you looked at him funny and you learned in your concealed class that is NOT the proper time to pull your weapon? I have lived around the world and have yet to find a martial arts gym like this that does it all and with humility. Try the classes, there’s a free week trial. Pass these skills to your kids so no bully ever takes their lunch money and screams “O’Doyle Rules!.” Jokes aside, life is fleeting. Grab it by the balls. Learn to defend yourself, have something for yourself you can be a primal beast at, spend money on life saving skills instead of diabetic-inducing comas, take the classes, my friends. After all, don’t we all want to be a human capable of defending our self and our loved ones? Ya know, the right way. Not with waving loaded guns and spitting venom that stems from your childhood neglect. Stewart is legit amazing. Trust this place and trust me. Or, don’t, not my problem…“
