“I do not have enough good things to say about Simple Funerals and the owner, Tom.I recently experienced the life-changing loss of my loving mom.The process of finding a funeral director felt extremely overwhelming. I feel very fortunate that we found Tom after visiting a couple of the major funeral homes in our area.The necessary conversations for funeral arrangements after a beloved family member has passed can feel like an uncomfortable and daunting experience as you’re navigating through the steps in a state of disbelief and sorrow. I can’t imagine that it’s anything anyone WANTS to do.Tom was wonderful to work with. He truly took time and care during the conversations that my dad and I had with him as we were working through my mom’s arrangements.Not once did we feel rushed or just like another number. I understand that many of those in the business may be a bit desensitized to these matters, which is something we experienced at some of the other places we met with. It was not like that with Tom in the least.We felt heard and well cared for by Tom as we were navigating through this heartbreaking process.He truly went above and beyond in helping us ensure that the arrangements would be exactly as my mom would’ve wanted them. When my stepfather passed away in Arizona some years ago, we had no idea what to do or where to start the process of getting him back to Detroit. “My wife's family has used this place for many years and unfortunately I have been here more times than I would like due to the circumstances. The people that own and operate the facility are flat out amazing. Recently when my father passed and obviously I suggested them to my mother. In normal fashion they were completely stellar in the handling of my father, and helping my mother and I through the process. The facility is nice and well kept but if I could add an extra star just based on how caring, hospitable and courteous they are I would. Losing a loved one is hard, it's easy to find a small fault and make any little detail a extreme disservice but they did a fantastic job for us from setting up the service and planning. They did a great job on preparing my father. He looked great and did everything we needed. Highly HIGHLY recommended. “Had the most amazing experience at Woodlawn Cemetery. I traveled up to Detroit for a music trip including visiting the legendary Motown Museum and wanted to visit Woodlawn to pay my respects to some of my favorite singers including David Ruffin and Levi Stubbs. Jukaila, one of the cemetery’ representatives, not only assisted me in finding the graves, but gave me a personal tour and drove me to every grave I wanted to see. I have been to many cemeteries to pay my respects to famous individuals but never have had such a remarkable experience as I did here. If you want to pay your respects to entertainers or individuals you admire, the staff will help you!!“
