I typically dread going in for my eye appointments bc it’s the longest process, to then be told my prescription is the same and now i need to pay $450 for glasses and contacts.But this was truly impressive Dr. Jay and the staff there are fantastic! “With a recent change in insurance, I had to choose a new eye doctor in network. I found an in network location near my work and decided to schedule my annual check at Deerwood Family Eyecare. There was a wait, I expected that but I did not expect the sincere concern for my wait time that the entire staff expressed. They made it clear that this was not normally the case, and I knew that to be true. Once in, I was given my initial test before I saw Dr. Shearer. My tester was engaging, excited and seemed to really love her work. Once Dr. Shearer came in, he asked me a bit about myself and explained how he was the longest tenured eye doctor in Jacksonville. Totally put me at ease. When I explained to him that I had referrals to a specialist in the past for "large cups" or possible glaucoma, he explained that he had those devices on hand and that those tests could be done same day with results. What a load off my mind. This was done immediately after my new prescription was finished. The other part that was extremely impressive is that when he was testing me for a new prescription, he would make me stop and blink before deciding "better one or better two". This made a huge difference. I never had this happen before and it was crucial. The other little extra he does is show you your current prescription and then the new one. The staff was all familiar with the insurance coverage, how it worked and made suggestions based on that. That was extremely helpful as insurance can be tough to navigate. What started out being an anxious visit to a new doctor ended up being a blessing. Highly recommend Deerwood and Dr. Shearer for anyone searching for an eye doctor.“

“I was there 2/27/23 bought a pair of cazal sunglasse. Don't listen to the other negative reviews. I had a great experience two older ladies they were very nice and helpful. I will say if you going in there just window shopping not looking to really spend money yes I can see them not being all in your face they're giving you your space to look around. The lady was nice enough to even reshape one pair of glasses for me to see how they fit which she did not have to do. I for sure will be returning to them to buy more glass wear, no more sunglasses hut“

“It’s been a while since i had gone to united optical outlet a few years give or take , but i saw an add and i figure i give them a review, from the time that i was a kid till just recent my mom would get my glasses from there and once I became an adult so did i, what i like about them is that the prices of the frames are good and there is never a hidden cost. My vision insurance contracted with them so i will be going there to get my eye glasses and that of my family. I never ever had an issue with them and i will say my prescription was always right and my glasses were durable and at the same time inexpensive.“

“I had an amazing experience here. I was just waiting on my partner to pick out some glasses, and asked the store manager (Richard) if he could look up my vision insurance and see if I was eligible for an eye exam. I was, and he got me started immediately. There was no dilation involved, and the entire process took less than an hour. The actual eye test is administered remotely, but it didn't feel any different than a regular exam. I got an updated prescription and Richard was more helpful than most optometrists I've encountered in explaining the specifics of my prescription. He gave me a updated pair of my new prescription and current brand, and also gave me a pair of a new brand for astigmatism for me to see if I liked that one better. Start to finish it was a really impressive experience.“

“I had new insurance which was not accepted by my normal Eye Care Professional's practice. This is my first time to try any other eye doctor in Jacksonville after living here for over 15 years and I was very impressed. The location is super convenient to where I live, and upon entering this practice I was impressed with how beautifully set up it is. It is very modern and fresh. From the moment I entered the doors I was welcomed. The lady who checked me in was fast and efficient and so very friendly. I asked permission to try on glasses to see if I liked any of them and she responded very positively that I could absolutely try on anything I wanted to. After COVID it has been hard to go look at optometrists to try on frames to determine if I could find a pair to suit me. My experience is that they did not like you touching their merchandise and if you did they had to be set aside for re-cleaning. I get it, it's all about germs, but it is frustrating when you are discouraged to try on something that is so expensive and you really want to be the right choice. Due to this I have put off buying new glasses for years.Thankfully that was not my experience here! Actually during my conversation the receptionist she gleaned from my conversation that I love bling and very light weight, preferably frameless glasses and enlisted one of the girls that handled glasses fittings to help me find something that I liked. I believe her name may have been Tracy, but I'm not 100% sure. Before we really started to look at options I asked if it was possible to simply replace the glass in my current pair as they were titanium frameless frames that I have owned for many years and always taken good care of. I also was going to discuss with the doctor fitting me with progressive lenses, because unfortunately it has come to that point in my life and my vision and I was sick of having to carry 2 pairs of glasses and constantly changing them. I was very happy to hear that my frames would support this type of lens, which obviously would save me a lot of money and negate the need for me to try to find alternate frames.My wait for the doctor was not long at all, in fact because I was either looking around at the selection of frames or interacting with the staff, I had not even made it to their seating area to wait. I was called back and the assessment of my existing health conditions and medicine being taken began. I was surprised with the equipment they had to measure certain elements of eye health, this practice is very modern and were digitalized/automatically measured and I had never seen some of these technologies before (and I work in the eyecare industry!) and I was impressed with how quick and fuss free everything was. I was asked if I would allow eye dilation (a process I do not enjoy) but the drops used did not sting like I had previously experienced and they were colorless, when normally they are yellow. The dilation period did not take long at all to occur, there was no real waiting period, which again had been my previous experience. Then the doctor came in and we discussed my eye health and she then began using their very modern eye machine that did not require her to continually adjust manual glass inserts. This machine was very quick and efficient and before I knew it, the exam was completed. I was then escorted back to the glasses fitting specialist (Tracy) who was a real joy to work with. She gave me examples of the quality of progressive lens brands and obviously the more you are prepared to invest, the better the technology in providing a more seamless lens (for progressive lenses). As I am hoping that I will own this pair of glasses for a very long time going forward and hopefully not having too many more vision changes I opted for the best quality lens. I also believe that converting from single vision lenses to progressives will require a bit of an adjustment, better to have the best experience possible with the best quality options. I also then asked if it was also possible to use my sunglasses frames to update that RX“
