“There's nothing better than word of mouth when it comes to remodeling. After all, you have to pack your stuff, as if you're moving, leave it for a (hopefully) set period, surrender your keys, and hope for the best.

You hope that the contractor you hired is professional, courteous, has an eye for home design, color selection and matching, a good understanding of functionality as well as looks. You hope that the contractor you selected will not get you in trouble with the neighbors, with the neighborhood. But most of all, you hope that when you get back to your place, you are going to find it way better than the way you left it.

You want to be involved every step of the way, but you also want to be able to trust the professionalism of the people you hired. After all, you work in a completely different industry, and your own knowledge about hardwood floors, paint, bathroom, showers, leveling, and other interesting stuff is limited at best.

Friends we trust recommended Miki and Julie. We met with them. Right away we felt a connection. Julie is the interior designer. Miki is the project manager. Julie was able to slowly but surely extract from us what we really wanted, and model it. When she was done, we knew exactly what it is we were getting. Once we agreed on all, floors, wall and ceiling paint, bathroom tiles, vanity, counter, mirrors and lighting, Miki took the keys and the project started.

Miki committed to time and schedule, and was able to keep it for the most part. Truth be told, if it wasn't for the bathroom counter, which wasn’t at his control, it would have finished earlier than planned.

But as I said before, the “wow” effect is when you open the door for the first time, and your eyes go over the results. Then you say "wow" using your inside voice, then the outside voice. Then you try to remember what this place looked like before, and you realize three things: you can't, you don't want to, and it doesn't matter. It is great, wonderful, and this is the way it always was, or should have been.

“NW quality construction was hired to remodel the bathrooms(3) and build a fireplace. The bathrooms had to be stripped to studs, some partitions had to be removed to bring it to the layout we wanted. I used CQC about 7 years ago to remodel two bathrooms -- both of which were torn down to the drywall and substantially updated to spa quality luxury bathrooms. They also enlarge some closets and repaired a rotting and molding roof. Recently I hired them again to help repair another bathroom and while he was super busy he was honest with me about his timeframe to get to the work. Most people don't speak of their home renovations as excellent experiences, but this was the case for me. There were no timeline or cost surprises. LYD's craftsmen/workers were all very skilled, efficient, and professional. Except for about a week when I was out of town, I continued to live upstairs.
