AYC is a beautiful studio, welcoming and warmly decorated. If you are looking to commit to a yoga practice and learn a yoga practice that will stick with you for a lifetime- ashtanga is classical yoga system that offers that. Carroll Ann and Liam are committed to approaching Ashtanga from a place that makes it accessible to all (financially and physically). Their teaching are safe and trustworthy! AYC is a place i call home for my spiritual practice. Currently I'm finishing up with my 300hr YTT through them, I can't imagine a better program or teachers.
I grew up in Charlottesville, went to UVA, and sampled all the yoga studios the city has to offer. AYC is the best by far. It is the most beautiful studio (exposed brick, windows all around). Its teachers are life-long practitioners--they are experienced, confident, and welcoming. I no longer live in the area, but everyone still remembers my name, even if it's been years since I've been in. Even if you have never done Ashtanga Yoga, try it. Take an Ashtanga Intro class, and you will quickly get the hang of it. Students of all levels practice here, and the teachers are more than happy to guide you.
I love AYC and miss it so much now that I've moved away. I used to come literally every day. Now, years later, I'll go to a class when I'm in town and the teachers still remember me and give me a warm welcome. AYC's teachers gave me such a solid foundation in yoga that I've been able to keep up a dedicated home practice. But, of course, there is no substitute for the warm, windowed studio in Belmont, the crystal singing bowls at the end of savasana, and the kind community offered to all--beginning and advanced practitioners alike.
