11304 Huffmeister Rd, Houston“My four-year-old son and I first stopped by KMA last year, and found Master Song to be an exceptionally gifted teacher. While another martial art place in the area asked me to wait until my son was five years old, KMA was willing to let us give it a shot and they exercised extreme patience. My son felt so safe that he developed a little brother crush on Master JJ and even drew a card for Master JJ on his own. Although it has been 10 years since I had practiced Martial Arts myself in a formal dojang, the family-friendly culture of the place led me to start going myself... And, under Master Song's tutelage, I even finished off my remaining requirements (yes, I had to brush off a lot of dust for sure :)) for a certified WT Kukiwon black belt just this month. I now volunteer teach a beginners class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Hope to continue to grow as a martial artist, and to do this in the decades ahead.“

5701 Bingle Rd Ste. B-101, Houston“I really enjoy learning aikido here. As an adult woman (mid 40’s) I chose this dojo because there's no children training here, and winning competitions is not the goal. The training mat is top notch for taking the harder falls, and I appreciate the changing rooms so I'm not traveling in my gi.I receive instruction from a wide range of people and ranks, and the years of experience the senior instructors have is hard to find. This is a difficult martial art and I've never felt put down for not being as quick or capable as others.Update (04/04/22): We made it through COVID and remain an active dojo. I still train here and am on track to earn my black belt despite my body trying to break down on me (injury not related to aikido LOL). I've added the SMR Jodo classes and find I really enjoy learning the weapons system in addition to the hands-on aikido system.“

12023 Beamer Rd, Houston“We couldn't have chosen a better place for our daughter. Master Walker is INCREDIBLE with children; maintains a safe environment and always keeps the kids active, training, making sure they fully understand the training being provided. A bonus to the Parents, is that Master Walker offers a Parents Night Out evening. Parent's Night Out offers our daughter an evening full of different activities, food, and a movie! Great evening for all always!!! We began just immediately after COVID and have remained and will remain as our daughter is more than 3/4 of the way to Black Belt! Thank you Master Walker!!!!“
“My son started there when he was three. We had to move to another state . My wife was transferred. We miss him. I have nothing but praise for him.“

When my 5-year-old started BrazilianJiu-Jitsu classes at Midtown MMA Houston, he was a beginner with much to learn. Now, a year later, the transformation is remarkable.Professor Chris, Coach Chris and all the instructors have not only taught my child the techniques of Jiu-Jitsu but also valuable life skills. My child’s self-esteem and confidence have soared, and he always had so much joy on practicing jiu jitsu at Midtown MMA Houston.I highly recommend this academy to any parent looking to enrich their child’s life with martial arts.“

8475 Hwy 6 N Suite C3, Houston“I have been with this Taekwondo school for 15 years. I started training when I was 8 years old when the school was still located on Cherry Park Drive. This place has been my second home. I have trained under Master Kim's Instruction for 10 years. I am now currently 23 years old and have become a master, head instructor, and black belt recommender that proudly represents this school and everything it stands for. Speaking from my time as a student, I can say that this is a very special Taekwondo school. There are a few very important values that the instructors greatly value that are explained in more detail below. The head instructors, Grandmaster Kim and Ms. Nina, have been great mentors to me and have always had the best intentions in their hearts. Constantly being tough on me pushed me to be the best person I could possibly be and has had a lasting impact on who I am today. At the same time, they cared for me like I was a part of their family. If you want your child to become the best version of themselves they can be, while also developing their self-discipline, confidence, focus, self-defense, and martial arts skills, then I highly recommend this school to you.Discipline:This is the core of the values held dear at this academy. Being tough on the students helps them develop discipline and achieve the highest skill in martial arts they can. Martial arts is meant to be a challenge and help students toughen up and the instructors encourage that. This school enforces verbal and physical (with consent) punishment for misbehavior. The instructors create a serious environment so that students can thrive. Pain and discomfort is part of what will be experienced here and will help you become stronger. At the same time, there are still some times reserved for fun and games. This school strikes a great balance between serious training and having fun at the right times.Confidence:Students develop confidence through various means. Students are taught to greet and bow to the instructors and masters and demonstrate proficiency in Taekwondo skills individually. By learning to perform tasks such as greeting, exercising, counting, kicking, striking, blocking, or sparring on an individual basis, students are able to build their confidence as a martial artist which can then carry over to other aspects of life.Quality Instruction:The instructors care deeply about each individual student and their success. Students are corrected when they are wrong and informed of their mistakes. Constructive criticism is a vital part of improvement. Students are also taught to be self-aware of their own mistakes so they can learn to improve on their own. If you are never corrected, told you are wrong, or are constantly told you're doing a good job when you are not, how will you ever improve? Many other values are taught, specifically the five tenets of Taekwondo which have stuck with me throughout my entire time in life. These include courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. The students must memorize, understand, and exhibit these values.Regarding the recent one-star reviews, the supposed stories are inaccurate and some are even completely false. I was a student training in front of the waiting area at the time of the claimed incidents. Judging the entire school off of a single interaction is unfair. All of those reviews never had the chance to fully experience the school.“
“KMA Tae Kwon Do has terrific instructors. My son enjoys learning. I like seeing the confidence and respect that the instructors teach as well. This is a well-run studio that benefits all ages!“
