“Without a doubt Master Lindeberg and his School not only Changed my life But Saved my life. I have been a part of his classes going back 26 years. It is hard to put it into words what you will get out of this School. But I can say you will get more then expected. You will have a new family.“
“There is a lot I have to share about this gym. This review was a long time coming, mostly because I dropped by this gym last December, but the experience has carried itself with me for a while. For some background, I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for about 2 years, and I was going to visit St. Paul for part of Christmas break, so I needed to find a gym to train at for the time I was there. I did some research and found Grappler Station. The owner, Max, contacted me and said I was more than welcome to drop in.First off, the environment is exactly what I was looking for. It emanated positivity and openness. I felt welcome as soon I walked through the door and was greeted by the first two people to enter the gym. That feeling stuck with me throughout the whole training session as everyone was very nice and willing to train with me.Secondly, the instruction. I feel like everyone I trained with had something to teach me to help me improve. After each higher belt that I rolled with, I was filled with questions and each one had an answer to each of those questions. That should say something about the high level of instructors at this gym. Finally, the people. Everyone was extremely nice and careful not to hurt me while training. Everyone knew what they were doing and were amazing people on and off the matts.Giving Grappler Station a 5/5 stars because of its welcoming environment, high level training, and amazing group of people to train with and just be alongside. Like I said, I visited them back in December, but the experience I had for the short time I was there stuck with me until today. Highly recommend this gym if you are thinking about starting to train, signing your kids up to train, or even just need another gym to train at.“
“10 years ago I was in the military and did about 2 years of MMA / BJJ training. I had my first class last week and am extremely impressed. All of the students there seem genuinely interested in learning and improving rather than just hanging out. The instructors are not only extremely knowledgeable, but several of them actually compete in MMA competitions.I've seen them demonstrate some very high-skill techniques, and they're exceptional at explaining what they're doing.Bottom line, there are only a few places in the area to train in MMA, but don't bother with the others. This place is amazing and totally worth it if you want to develop skill in MMA / BJJ fighting styles.“
“I just started attending here and am truly blown away by the kindness, communication, and respect of this Gym. The owner Hayden and the coaches are knowledgeable, hard working, and know how to teach. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a gym. Very beginner and experienced friendly.“
“Alliance has an amazing community with fantastic coaches. The team is welcoming and education into the world of BJJ is comprehensive.“
“Awesome awesome awesome! It’s a very good place if you want training for taykando!Very very behaved and polite teachers!A very disciplined and friendly environment inside.“
“I came to Twin Cities T’ai Chi seeking a practice that would help me with emotional and physical processing of a year filled with challenging life events. I got that and so much more. The instructors are knowledgeable and the studio members are warm and inviting. The studio itself is spacious and clean. There are folks with all sorts of different backgrounds, ages, and stories with what lead them to TCTC. I wasn’t expecting this but I ended up gaining a whole new community with fellow studio members and instructors that I love to see each week.If you’re seeking to bring a new practice and community into your life, Twin Cities T’ai Chi might be the perfect fit, as I discovered it was for me.Pro tips:1. Don’t be afraid when entering the building for the first time. The studio is a few floors up in an artists loft building with the doors to the street locked to the public. Arrive a little early to the class and there will be a friendly instructor to open the door and greet you when you arrive.2. Dress in layers and feel free to bring a small backpack. The space is toasty in the winter!3. You will get to work with different instructors each class. The variety is lovely and it creates a well rounded experience!“
“Last spring I started training with Professor Gina. It has been an honor. She is an amazing instructor and fosters an awesome community.“
“I am Mohamed Daali I like master nick. He is great coach. i am attending his classes for more than one year. I was very bad at kicking now i am a champion cause of his coaching and teaching.“
“Enjoyable, transformative experience. Fitness for body, mind and spirit. Welcoming community.“
“Had a great experience with the cove back in late 2000s early 2010s. Lots of good partners and instructors.“
“My entire family (two grade school kids, my husband, and me) have been going here for about six months, and it's really enriched our lives and improved our health. This school fosters community really well, and I feel like we're all in it together, helping each other pursue our goals.Personally speaking, I'm forty years old and have some chronic health issues. That I'm able to study martial arts with my family alongside twenty-year-old men in peak health speaks to this school's ability to encourage people to grow from wherever they are in life. It has also been a blast learning martial arts as a family (a feat only allowed thanks to this school's pricing structure). I'm able to have fun with my kids while we learn, and sparring with my husband feels like date night.Having never studied martial arts before, I can't compare this place to anywhere else, but here are a few of the things I find striking...The school uses a volunteer format for their instructors. It helps keep the costs low--nowhere else I called could compete with their price--but it also creates a built in sense of comradery. Instructors teach for passion, not a paycheck, and have a personal investment in your success. The instructors rotate on different nights, and students are able to learn from multiple perspectives.Teachers are actively invested in your success regardless of your belt color, but they also care that your belt color *means* something. Students are not bumped up from level to level to make them feel good (you won't find any twelve-year-old black belts here), but as a signifier of knowledge and advancement. It makes this a great place to learn for both beginners and those who are already serious about martial arts.On one recent Thursday night, our two kids received focused instruction in self-defense from a four-time kickboxing world champion, while my husband and I went through our one-steps (a kind of belt-level-based series of movements) with the school's lead teacher. In the background, another black-belt helped students go through form. It all felt so personalized and thoughtful, and I feel privileged to be part of it.This place, in a strip mall basement with aging carpet, is a hidden gem. Give it a try.“
“I’ve been going to Hopkins NK for a while now and it’s really engaging. The instructors are a great combination of nice and critical.“
“I have been a student of Guro Chris McWethy for 3 years. He is a very good teacher who is very knowledgeable and a good communicator. The class is well organized and always interesting. I have learned real world basic and intermediate self defense techniques. There is also a lot of stick and some knife work. One night per week is sparring with padded sticks.“
“Capoeira is wonderful mix of martial arts, movement/acrobatics, and music. It has a rich history and tradition. Capoeira Minnesota is an excellent school in all the various aspects of the art. Students are challenged to grow in different directions, and instruction is top-notch and very well planned. Most importantly, my experience is that Capoeira Minnesota is a welcoming community of people, were everyone is supported, cared for, and celebrated in their Capoeira journey. Training with Capoeira Minnesota has been hugely beneficial for me and has led me to expand the boundaries of what I thought I could ever be able to do. Capoeira Minnesota has brought much joy into my life! I highly recommend it.“
“I am now a brown belt after 2 years it is a great experience and I do the summer camp online school and day camp and after school the after school I do when it is not Covid-19 and I love all.“
“I dropped in here for a free demo class on a Saturday while looking for a new reality-based jiu jitsu gym to call home after five years (pandemic interrupted) at another Minnesota-based gym after deciding I needed a change. I arrived only 5 minutes before class, sorry, but Steve welcomed me with open arms and the place was filled with the sounds of the students having fun talking before starting. Steve had a great relationship with the students and commanded their attention with minimal effort. Light stretches to start, followed by increasingly intense partner bag work blending kicks and punches. Then came technique which today was some sit through escapes from bottom. Class finished three rounds of rolling and then everyone seemed to be welcome to hang out and talk, stretch, or even keep rolling. Steve invited me at this time to roll with him which I love to see. An owner engaged and willing to roll with all students! He was patient but forceful and made me tap a half dozen times before he had had enough! The diversity of the students is great, many women present and a great age range so anybody should feel welcome. No snobbery here with uniform rules and a focus on fun while learning a very real and practical version of jiu jitsu. Nothing fancy but a tremendous value thanks to building ownership offering the lowest tuition rates in town. Truly a unique and historic school! Thank you again for letting me join you!“
“Kuk Sool Won was by far the best thing for me as a kid and growing into adulthood. The physical training empowered my life. The lessons learned still guide my life. I'm so thankful my parents allow me to join Kuk Sool Won. Earning my Blackbelt is one of my most proud experiences! I cant thank my instructors and the schools owners Steffen and Nicki enough. Truly a life changing experience!“
“This is an amazing place. It's much more than a training school. It's a community that fosters discipline, cooperation, commitment and love. My two children started here from scratch and have just completed their black belt test. We'd just moved to the US when they started. This school inspired it's students to improve in all facets of their lives. It's very family oriented too. The instructors are efficient and strict while caring and understanding, a difficult balance to maintain. The owner and master trainer, Mr. Peter Wahlstrom, is also a university professor. It shows. He's more than an instructor. He's a mentor. He has had a wonderful positive impact on my daughter (14)and son (12). Excellent school in every way. It's rare to find a place like this nowadays.“
“Amazing place!! Our two kids have attended the family owned martial arts studio since 2013.Both my Son and Daughter attended the after school program and our Daughter continues taking martial arts classes getting closer to test for her 2nd degree black belt. We are very fortunate to have found Kick Start Martial Arts because they value family, relationships, learning, discipline, honesty and so many other important principals in life.We know that our kids matter there and they are not just a spot on the mat. Thank you Paul and Kellie for being so professional, caring and everything you do! Riascos Family“
“I have been going to Dojo Karate for a year and a half with my six year old grandson and have enjoyed it. Learning Karate and great exercise. All of the instructors are great!“
“Great inclusive gym with one on one coaching option. Started here with no experience and have had a great time. The instructors are great and classes move along at a good pace. The classes develop in complexity over the course of the month and I would advise starting early in the month and consistently getting to a class.“
“Excellent self defense school! Our 7yo daughter can’t wait for her next class. She has been enrolled for 8 months. The instructors are really good and teach the kids to be respectful, focused and work hard. I highly recommend this studio for families who want to have their kids in a routine, learn respect and gain confidence in a fun way.“
