Terrible! This building should be shut down since it is always flooded and appointments are 95% not kept. Even the cleaning staff cannot get in. Doctors, nurses--all can't get in. Too flooded. The Plumbers can get in. Too bad they keep making appts for this facility...a M.A.S.H. unit is better and more organized than this place.

Facility Not Safe for Public Transit Wheelchair Access I have been a very satisfied Kaiser member for many years now. Both here in the DC area and before then, out in California. I love Kaiser's Thrive initiative and it inspired me to take Metro Rail and transfer to Metro Bus to get from my job in Downtown DC to their Shady Grove, MD facility. I could have drove my car there but wanted to try the healthier way of doing things. My phone app made the planning part so easy. I picked start and destination locations. Picked method of transport. And picked desired arrival time. It did the rest. On the day of the appointment, everything was going like clock work. At least until I got to the Kaiser Facility. You see, I tore my left Achilles' tendon and was using a knee scooter as my mobility device to go to my MRI appointment. For anyone using public transit and a mobility device, be aware that there is not a safe way to gain access to the entrance of this facility. The concrete sidewalk that leads from the street to the front of the building has two separate sets of steps AND NO RAMP! And these steps cannot be seen from the street. I had to set the brake on the knee scooter and pull it down step-by-step, while holding onto the handrail. Not safe, and not an option for someone that is wheelchair bound. I was told that the facility was recently expanded. But clearly, no money was spent on off-property wheelchair accessibility. This is healthcare facility. Of all places, efforts should be made to make it the most accessible building possible. A review of accessibility should always be a part of the redevelopment process for a healthcare building AND property. Leaving was worse. The steps were out of the question. So I used the driveway. It is steep and narrow and there is a raised island separating the opposing traffic. So cars cannot swerve. If a car turned into the driveway, I was at their mercy to stop in time. Not a good feeling. I definitely did not feel like I was thriving. Kaiser could do so much better. Paint a well marked crosswalk and a protected walkway from the front door, on the West side of the parking lot, to the East side of the parking lot. Install tire blocks , or planters, to protect most of that area. Put in a curb cut on the East end of the parking lot, and a short sidewalk to the bus stop adjacent to the property, on the West side of Piccard Dr. For people coming from the other direction, they will get off the bus on the East side of Piccard and make their way up to the traffic light to cross. Put a sign at the corner of the property, at the intersection of Piccard Dr and Redland Blvd that directs people on mobility devices to use the suggested safer route, behind the bus stop. The area behind the bus stop is relatively flat so Kaiser wouldn't have a major construction project on its hands. Kaiser, you can do so much better. The Thrive initiative should not be about lip service. Please fix this problem.
