“As a Latina with coiled curls, I’ve spent the majority of my life visiting Dominican owned hair salons, setting my hair in rollers blowing it out in the winter months, keeping it curly in the summer. A process that was both lengthy and exhausting because I struggled with the humidity keeping it straight and moisturized when curly. Not sure what I was doing wrong and desperately needed a change. “Andrew has been an absolute superstar! I'm often looking to completely change my hairstyle and he's met those requests with excitement instead of apprehension. He's also done a great job with both hair transitions he's worked on with me! To be honest I can't afford his haircuts but I keep going to him because he's the only person in the city that I trust with non-standard hairstyles across the gender spectrum.

Edit: My last couple haircuts have been quite disappointing. I tried to convince myself the haircuts were okay. But the lines in my hair were uneven both times and I asked for layers both times and he cut my hair all to the same length both times. Since he didn't give me layers the first time, I asked him to cut my hair short if he needed to for layers the second time around. This time again he cut my hair all to one length, but this time shorter. I would trust him completely with masculine hairstyles but I don't think I'm ever going back for a hairstyle with any femme components. The last couple appointments also felt more rushed and like he didn't have the time or energy to spend on the haircut and just wanted it out of the way, so all in all, I'm probably on the lookout for a new hairstylist.. :(“

I’ve been struggling with scalp issues for a while now and I’ve been looking for a stylist who actually treats scalps as opposed to just washing my hair. “I have been searching high and low to find a stylist specifically for my pixie cut. I stumbled across this salon online and decided to check out their website. I booked my appointment a week in advance with ease. The day of my appointment I was running late but they were really nice and did not make a fuss of it. I had the pleasure of having Malik style my pixie. I didn't have to wait more than 5-10 minutes to sit in his chair. He briefly examined the condition of my hair and asked me of my expectations. He was really hilarious. He had me laughing throughout my service. The atmosphere almost feels like you're sitting in your auntie's living room listening to gossip and good music. I normally wear my pixie for a few days before changing into braids or a wig but it's been over 2 weeks and I'm still wearing it. It seems to get better and better as the days go on. I feel so confident and sexy. I thought that this would be a one time thing as I was getting my hair done for vacation but I will definitely go back to Malik over and over again.“

I am a former professional makeup artist of over 11 years and have only ever had 2 other people do my makeup, Jeremy being the third. The makeup was perfect and fit my personal esthetic perfectly. The hair - AMAZING. And the photos… I cannot even describe how much I love them. His lighting was superb and he didn’t overly edit them either, which I loved. This was my first time getting my haircut here and it was by far the best cut I've gotten in Boston, especially considering the price (~$20 less than the going rate for a women's cut in the city). She was so friendly, chatty, and had a same day appointment when I called on a Tuesday morning. I told her just a little bit about what I wanted for my hair and she absolutely nailed it. “I just had my 2nd appointment at Expressions with Lina, and needed to take the time to write a review because my hair and experience were just that good. I am a city girl that has come to the burbs (love/hate), but finding city quality without having to cross the bridge is my mission, and exressions nails it. SUMMARY:Product wise they are super high end (back bar and for sale) which is a must, but not necessarily hard to find. The second part, which Lina and her co-owner both nail, is continuing education without being in the city, and pairing that with a solid hair background and history so that the trends are achievable but the integrity of your hair is maintained! MY EXPERIENCE: I came to Lina with 12 week grown out roots (I'm a level 5 and have a level 10 color block in the front), and needed a new hairdresser after my regular had a long term injury. She took the project on, but most importantly treated every piece of hair on my head like it was in the front. I had a band from leaving my roots for so long, and during my 2nd appointment she and her co-owner lovingly corrected it, even though Lina had a flight to catch for a familly emergency, they worked together and made my hair absolutely perfect. They also provided honest feedback about a longterm plan for my hair while achieving exactly what I wanted in the meantime. I couldn't be more pleased and I am so happy to have one less errand to run in the city so I can spend time complaining about the suburbs!“
