I have been going to so many places around Medford/somerville and he was the only one who spoke quite a bit making me feel that the place is MY PLACE. It was clean and his willingness to know what i want was admirable. He made me feel at home right away. Now about the cut, he was bang on. He took time to understand as it was my first time and definitely tried his best to accommodate and explain the pros and cons before he cut. I loved the fact that he also corrected my understanding surrounding the fades and also lined my stach (a light trim) for free as he is a self declared perfectionist. Haha I am glad, i feel like i finally found my place for a haircut 5 mins walk from my home.“

“My husband was looking for a new barber shop. We happened to drive by 1st Yard Barbers outside Watertown square, so I suggested he try it! He called and was able to get an appointment at the time he wanted. Even *he* had begun to be able to tell a good haircut from a bad haircut. As soon as he walked in the door after his appointment, I could see it was a *good haircut*. It was short and neat and evenly cut, nicely trimmed around his neckline, and with wavy layers on top. Not only does it look great now, I’m sure it will continue to look great as it grows in. I’m so glad he found a new spot!“

“Antonio is the most amazing barber. He is an older Brazilian man that is always there. His English isn’t great but he is extremely sweet and has such a calming presence. I don’t usually leave reviews but I’m leaving the area and am sad that I can’t bring him with me. He is the best I’ve had in Boston. I have straight course Asian hair and he knows exactly how to cut it with the most attention to detail. If it isn’t cut precisely it looks terrible and uneven. He cuts it once from how my hair is when I walk in, then he washes it, cuts it again, styles it and cuts it again to ensure the perfect cut from all angles.“

“Andrew has been an absolute superstar! I'm often looking to completely change my hairstyle and he's met those requests with excitement instead of apprehension. He's also done a great job with both hair transitions he's worked on with me! To be honest I can't afford his haircuts but I keep going to him because he's the only person in the city that I trust with non-standard hairstyles across the gender spectrum.

Edit: My last couple haircuts have been quite disappointing. I tried to convince myself the haircuts were okay. But the lines in my hair were uneven both times and I asked for layers both times and he cut my hair all to the same length both times. Since he didn't give me layers the first time, I asked him to cut my hair short if he needed to for layers the second time around. This time again he cut my hair all to one length, but this time shorter. I would trust him completely with masculine hairstyles but I don't think I'm ever going back for a hairstyle with any femme components. The last couple appointments also felt more rushed and like he didn't have the time or energy to spend on the haircut and just wanted it out of the way, so all in all, I'm probably on the lookout for a new hairstylist.. :(“

“I see some comments that find reflect the way this shop is ran and Tony having worked there to owning it for 20+ years has been nothing but good service , respectful, sometimes as any shop mostly dominated by men the debates get animated at times . But more so I left always with and smile on my face as well as knowledge. What the man does for the community is amazing . I watched him take an unfortunate honor student on a shopping spree and pay for him to play football.
