“Maria is so sweet and welcoming, she really knows how to work with curly hair, she was able to straighten it out nicely. She listened well to my requests for my haircut and only trimmed up to what was needed to get rid of the damaged ends. I felt well cared for and in the end I looked so pretty, I wanted a break from my curls which I hadn’t done in over 4 years and she did a great job, I know it’s not easy to work with thick curls plus I have a lot of hair! I definitely recommend her, you can rest assured that she will take good care of your hair.

I had her fix the haircut I gave myself on my long hair and decided I trusted her to cut my hair SUPER short! Which is a huge deal for me. “I was in desperate need of a haircut because my last one had not been for about two years, and things were getting out of control. I found this place online and it came well recommended. Normally, I would not consider a hair salon in a tourist area, nor a Japanese type salon because my hair is definitely white girl wavy. However, because it did come so nicely recommended, I decided to check it out. The staff is definitely from Japan and Japanese speaking, and I know that my hairstylist did not understand much of what I said, but despite that, my haircut was great. The one thing that I did not like was I asked her to put my hair in a ponytail before cutting it off so that I could keep the 12 inches of hair. She didn't understand me - although I said it twice and she nodded like she understood. And then all of a sudden my hair was on the floor, had never been ponytailed, and by then it was too late. The hair treatment before the cut was absolutely luxurious. I got an amazing head massage and shampoo and conditioning. I would go back just to have that done every now and then because I love my head rubbed. It was a bit toasty in the salon that day because it was August Ish, but they were nice enough to aim the fan at me to keep me cool the whole time. My cut came out great, my hair was so happy afterwards, and I would most likely go back again. The price was great as well. The salon was easy to find and they gave me a few dollars towards parking expenses, which was much appreciated. I would highly recommend them, but if you have any specific instructions, make sure you find someone who speaks fluent Japanese and English to translate.“

“Today was my first time at Mehana Salon and I had a fantastic experience with Jenny. She fit me in last minute, was incredibly friendly and treated me with aloha. Jenny is truly great at texture and really listened to my needs. The parking was easy, and the location felt very welcoming, clean, and professional. The entrance might look more like a home than a business, but you're welcome to walk right in. Inside, there's a reception counter, and her studio is well decorated with a customer focused atmosphere. For a stylist with 20 years of experience, the price was very reasonable. Plus, they offer convenient online booking services for new and returning guests. Highly recommend Mahana Salon!

It was about 10am, there was no wait. I knew there might be a line by the time I got there (I was coming from Ewa Beach).Checking in: There is a screen showing the waitlist. I was at the top with 4 people behind me. The worker was assisting another person but checked me in right after. NOTE: if it’s your first time there they will need your address to put you in their system. There were 3 stylists (sorry if that’s not the proper terminology). Two were in the process of cutting hair and the third was assisting the guests checking in. After checking in I waited less than 5 minutes before I was called.Haircut: My stylist asked what I wanted. Verified the length with me (I was cutting almost 12 inches off). What I appreciated was she had me stand up to check the length. I always worry the haircut will be too short because I’m sitting and tend to slouch (even when I try to sit up straight). I also did layers and she checked the length of the layers with me, which (again) I appreciated, because I liked to tie my hair back so my layers can’t be too short.Overall: I’m a very low maintenance person when it comes to my hair. I don’t color it, I don’t style it, I don’t use any special products. I just need my hair shortened and layers redone, nothing extra. I’ve been going to salons and spending $60+ just to cut my hair (they also shampoo & style/blow dry it after, which, I don’t need/want). I was so happy to give Great Clips a try (noticed it after going to Curry House)! I will definitely be coming back! 10/10 recommend!“

Over the years I've gotten braver with what I wanted to do with my hair & every single time Alyssa always was very supportive of all my crazy hair ideas.
