Being from Tennessee, we appreciated the Southern hospitality that was shown to my husband and I from the moment we walked through the doors of this beautifully renovated funeral home. The staff were just as spectacular as the historic facility! Katherine was the sweetest and most accommodating receptionist. Due to time constraints, we had to go straight to Gawler’s with our luggage when we arrived in DC. She quickly showed us where to store our bags, then led us to the Founders Room offering snacks/drinks and restrooms. Both Duane & Joshua were very transparent and willing to answer numerous questions and fulfill our extra requests without hesitation. Gawler’s has obviously met with many famous and influential families over the years; however, I felt as if they treated us with the same amount of respect. Their professionalism was greatly appreciated, as it is rarely found in today’s world. I would highly recommend Gawler’s Sons Funeral Home to ensure every detail is fulfilled while caring for your loved one.

Joseph Gawler’s Sons, LLC was founded in 1850 and has proudly provided funeral and cremation services to the Washington D.C. area for more than 160 years. Over the years, there have been presidents, vice presidents, Supreme Court justices, members of Congress, cabinet secretaries, military leaders and foreign dignitaries who were honored at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, LLC. Originally located in the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Ave., it is believed to be the oldest funeral establishment still operating in the D.C. area.
