I researched and called various places to make sure I could take my mother's ashes out of the country. It all seemed to be OK, but I decided to check one more time. A wonderful staff member at Kramer suggested I go the consulate in person. I had already received emailed information from the consulate, but I was not confident all was in order. I did as the Kramer staff member suggested and found out all was not in order. I had to obtain more documents to receive proper clearance. “My mother passed away 2 1/2 years ago. It was a sudden death for which we were unprepared, and I did a fair amount of research to determine how to care for her body in a way that was respectful to who she was in life. Even after all this time, I feel very, very fortunate to have found The Natural Funeral team.

They had just started the body composting program, and my mother was among the first to undergo the process. From the very beginning of working with them, I felt such a strong sense of compassion and care in every interaction. They were patient with our constant questions and the way in which we needed to approach the process while grieving her loss.

My mother was a very nature-oriented woman, and the thought of embalming was hard to swallow, seeming very far from her own values. The choice of composting was a more costly option than others available, however in my mind it was absolutely worth it in its respect for both the person and the earth.

As far as the composting itself, the team walked us through it step-by-step, making sure we were able to anticipate the various stages. The team ensured that we could take an active part in the process: they held a small ceremony for us at the side of the chrysalis, and my father, son and I all placed hay atop her body (which was shrouded). This felt to be such a personal way to say farewell and to experience closure. Although the chrysalis was housed in their facilities which were in an industrial area of the city, they created a warm and welcoming area for us inside. The composting took a few months, and once complete, we were able to pick up the soil (It is quite a lot of soil if you choose to take the full amount, so that large containers are necessary to house it. However, the team also offers the opportunity to donate the soil.) The soil has been used in the gardens of her sisters and brothers, and in our own gardens, with little bits being scattered at some of the places that she loved.

It has taken me a while to be able to look back again on the memories of her passing, but I at last feel comfortable revisiting the experience, including leaving this review for a team of people who truly care for the families and people in their care - both alive and passed. If I have to make such a decision again, I would absolutely choose The Natural Funeral.“

“After reading some of the reviews I was hesitant, however a family friend said to give Ballard Family Mortuary a try. I am so happy we did. I can't speak for everyone but my family's experience was as good as it could be under the circumstances. My advice would be just to be clear about what you want and what you do not want. The entire process is pretty much up to the family in the wants etc. You can build your services one piece at a time or purchase a package. Also, Mr. Ballard was honest & realistic about what to expect. What more could we ask for? I say give this small business a try. “When my father passed away I had no idea where to start this is the first time In my life I would ever have to plan a funeral. I wanted to make sure the day went as smooth as possible. I thought that was the very least I could do. He did not have any sort of life insurance or assets so finding somewhere affordable was also important.

We were considering Romero funeral home and Latina Funeral Services. I initially chose to go with Romero Funeral home because the reviews for Latina made me hesitant. Needless to say we did not have a great experience with Romero Funeral Home and that left us looking for another funeral home 2 weeks after my father passed away. My husband wanted me to consider Latina funeral services and asked me to just meet with them to see what they could offer our family despite the negative reviews and I AM SO GLAD I listened to him.

We met with Iris at latina funeral home and I asked her about the negative reviews on their website right away as it was a big concern for me. She didn't make excuses she didn't get defensive or be rude. She explained the reviews then showed me what they could offer our family during this time. She was so patient, kind, and understanding. The customer service I received from Latina Funeral Home was night and day from what we received at Romero Funeral Home. Not to mention their pricing was a fraction of the price of Romero.

The whole team really pulled together and supported my family through the whole process. I am forever grateful to Iris and everyone over at Latina Funeral Home. She made sure to accommodate every request we had and helped me give my dad such a beautiful farewell. My dad loved to ride so the Motorcycle Hearse was an added bonus for us it was important to me for my Dad to get a "Last Ride." Latina services offered that service at a fraction of the price compared to their competitors and the gentleman who drove the hearse was also so kind and caring. I can't remember the woman's name who helped us close the casket after the viewing, but I wish I could, she too was honestly so so sweet. She had so much patients with me I was so grateful for her compassion during that time. I also wanted to note, the services for my dad took place during the hottest week of summer and I can assure you the A/C was functioning properly for our services.

I know this review is ridiculously long but I just wanted people like me, who look at the reviews to stop and consider "just meeting with them" like I did and see for yourself what they can offer your family. Dealing with the death of someone you love is not easy, and affordability is also important. You just may be pleasantly surprised like I was.
