“Lessons from Richard are educational, engaging and fun. I have been taking tenor sax lessons from Richard for over a year. He has helped inspire me to commit to my instrument more than I ever have over twenty years since I've owned and played a horn.His lessons are both reasonably priced and thoroughly enjoyable. I enjoy the ease of his teaching style, his knowledge and depth of music theory, and perhaps most of all, I appreciate his great sense of humor. I find his teaching style to strike the right balance of being encouraging and gently pushing me to grow as a player.The structure of the lessons are also very appealing. They are a blend of warm up exercises, theory, scales, and playing some songs. Almost immediately after beginning my lessons we began to work on tunes (in my case, jazz standards). Learning to sight read has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my education with Richard. I never thought I would read as well as I do and I have him to thank for it.I highly recommend him as a teacher whether you are completely new, intimidated by your horn or, like me, been sitting with your neglected sax for a number of years, but have always dreamed of making it sing again.“

Maryam especially deserves a shout-out for juggling schedules of students and instructors, especially when vacation time arrives and everyone is away. They're extremely patient--not only in scheduling, but also in teaching. My sons were beginning piano players, and they know everyone struggles at first. Never do they get frustrated with slow progress--they always encourage their students and motivate them to become better musicians. For advanced musicians, the instructors can help them get to the next level, as demonstrated by their twice-yearly recitals. I also like how they don't sell stuff in their studio--I kidded them about that because it seems every place that offers lessons also has a supply store.
