5524 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks“As a parent, I believe there are two essential life skills every child must learn: swimming and self-defense. I came to KMA with the goal of teaching my kids how to protect themselves, but we've gained so much more from this experience. Not only have they learned self-defense, but they've also discovered how to become the best version of themselves. The improvement in their self-esteem and confidence has been incredible. The instructors are outstanding--professional, patient, and skilled at making each lesson fun yet challenging. They foster an environment of respect and discipline, teaching valuable life lessons alongside martial arts techniques. KMA feels like a second home for us. I loved it so much that I recently joined as well! If you're looking for a place that goes beyond technique, focusing on both mental and physical growth, KMA is the perfect choice for everyone in your family. We're proud to be part of this amazing community!“

Regularly visit tournaments and are serious about earning your belt through difficult kihon and sparring. If you're serious about learning and experiencing full contact karate I'd highly recommend. 4617 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks“THERAPY. As someone who has had occasional difficulties in their personal and professional life I often found it challenging to have something to look forward to. This is that place. This is the place you look forward to going to every day. It isn't so much the building, but more so the people that make this place what it is and what it is evolving into. The friendly faces and genuine friendships that illuminate from here are cheerful and positive. Whether you're a business professional or a blue collar worker, a full time mom or a part time podcaster, young, old, short, tall, athletic or a casual couch potato you will find people from all walks of life here. This is a very family oriented and supportive school on and off the mats. When you are here there is no time to think about your problems and frustrations. Students here indulge in the good vibes and atmosphere all while training under a respected world class grappler, Mike Frausto aka Lobes, and his crew of experienced jiu-jitsu practitioners. It's an arduous task to think about your worries when you are fighting off gentle but highly skilled higher belts all while learning, not only a great life skill, but about who you are as a person. Are you the type of person that quits when things get uncomfortable or are you the type of person that strives to overcome obstacles? Come and find out. There's no better place to learn jiu-jitsu in a safe judgement free environment than at New Ground Jiu-jitsu. You get what you put into this sport and even if you find yourself obsessed, like many of us here are, there is always someone there to push you to the next level. I cannot emphasize enough how good this place is for your mind, body and soul. This school is true to their motto: good rolls and good vibes. Let's roll!“

The TKD class for kids has been a mainstay since ours were 5 (now teenagers). The staff have perfected the balance between discipline and fun in the classes, moulding intelligent and well-mannered kids. Can’t recommend it enough!
Also a great place for alternative medicine, gymnastics etc.“

“Gerry Blanck's Martial Arts School is one of the best dojos and best martial arts academy not only in Pacific Palisades but in Los Angeles as well. I've been a student at this dojo and I've seen first hand how Gerry and his professional instructors such as Sensei Liam, Jake, Art, Mark, etc. train students to be disciplined and well versed in the martial arts school of Yoshikai. They instill values of striving for excellence, respect, faith, perseverance, and refraining from violent behavior. They have classes six days a week which include karate classes for children or kids as young as 3 yrs old (they are so cute to watch!) to karate for senior adults (who are inspirational!). Aside from karate, they offer self defense, weapons and kickboxing which I enjoy because it's good for my cardio and stamina. Their students also have gotten various trophies in competitions in California and other states. Only the best training here, indeed! This dojo has been in Pacific Palisades for over four decades. It's a pillar of the community due to Gerry's expertise, patience, and care for all his students. Students and families look forward to coming to this top martial arts school to better themselves as well as to connect with others. Thank you Sensei Gerry and staff!“
