1485 N Milpitas Blvd, Milpitas“There are dozens of martial arts schools throughout the Bay Area. If you’re looking for one that can make a true difference in your child, it’s Blue Dragon Academy. My son has been attending the school for the past 5 years. We live in Danville. He’s a National Champion in his division. Besides his accomplishments, he’s a better person and student because of it.Grandmaster Thac is unique in that he teaches life skills to his students as much as the techniques of Taekwondo. Fundamental principles like Courtesy, Perseverance, Indomitable Spirit. His no-nonsense teaching methods are aimed to bring out the best in a child. He’s strict but fair. I highly recommend BDA. As you will not find any other schools quite like Blue Dragon Academy.“

5409 Central Ave #8, Newark“Its been a year since Tri City Aikido reopened post pandemic. My son really loves it there and is training at the adult level. Its been like a second family for him. It was there for him when my family went through a very difficult time. Sensei Anthony is a excellent and knowledgeable instructor. The only thing he LACKS is the overinflated ego that is the downfall of many martial arts instructors and schools. He cares and supports his students growth.“

1244 S Bascom Ave, San Jose“I’ve been training here under Corwin and Chuck since September 2023. I originally came to supplement my BJJ but then fell in love with Judo as its own art form and sport. My initial hesitation with starting Judo was the fear of getting injured as I’ve already got my fair share of chronic injuries through MMA and I’m only getting older.Yet I haven’t been injured a single time here as they put so much emphasis on safety and have dedicated adult classes on Monday & Wednesday which are more focused on technique and set-ups which means you can train at a lighter pace if you’re concerned about injuries. My favorite part of the Monday & Wednesday class is at the end when we get to practice controlled throws on each other on a huge crash pad - it feels like magic when you’re thrown effortlessly through a well-executed judo move and it’s a lot of fun landing on the crash pad too!Of course, they do have more intense classes on Tuesday and Thursday if you want to spar or train alongside active competitors. They have students that are at a world-class level here which humbles me every time I train.“

39650 Cedar Blvd, Newark“Looking for a great Chinese martial arts experience for your young ones? Legend Kung Fu Academy will incorporate training self defense, discipline, and traditional wushu techniques for kids as young as 5. Give their trail class a go and see for yourself! We have been attending the academy for about 2 years now and have been satisfied with our experience so far. There are some painpoints but they aren't unique to Legend.Legend follows a traditional belt promotion structure where students will start from a white belt, then continue to promote to yellow, yellow black, green, green black, purple, purple black, blue, blue black, brown, brown black, red, red black, red double black, black, black red, then finally black double red. Each promotion requires with an increasing amount of skills and typically a new series of hand and weapon forms and sequences. Promotions are typically held once a month and students deemed ready are invited to participate. The promotion events are quite interesting as each student will take the floor to perform their sequence, gain feedback from the instructors, and compete at times for higher ranks (for small little prizes like medals, trophies, sweets or toys). It's a wonderful experience for the students to build confidence and surround themselves with other like-minded students driven toward the same goal of moving up to the next level. For students who are looking to participate in local, national, and international competitions for kung fu or wushu will have the opportunity to elevate themselves into Legend's competition team. This group focuses on building skills and techniques necessary to compete at a high level against other schools. Students in this team would also typically have additional classes that may be longer than the normal non-competitive group. The class structure for the typical student can be challenging to master the techniques without regular practice outside of class. Each class is about 45 minutes long and over half of it is spent on warm ups, stretches, games designed to improve footwork and speed, and fundamental skills like jumping, rolling, blocking, kicking and punching. The remainder of the time is split among all the different sequences. To add, the class ratio can sometimes be abysmal but other times can be fair.Realistically, your child may get 2 to 3 minutes of dedicated instruction for their routine. If only attending class once a week, practice for that routine will need to be heavily subsidized by outside training in order retain the knowledge and promote incremental improvements. It's mostly recommended to attend twice a week for best results but the cost can rack up quickly. An alternative to growth is to sign up for their summer camps which tend to focus solely on their routine for a whole week. By the end of the week, theoretically the student should have enough experience to get promoted to the next level. They have full and half day programs during the summer so check them out!One thing Legend does do really well is incorporate fun into their programs. The kids certainly have a great time and have ample opportunities to bond with their classmates and instructors. The academy also participates in local community events and performs at local schools to promote the art of wushu so there are plenty of opportunities for your child to get exposure in a public performance setting. In addition, given that a few of the instructors (Shifu Li and Shifu Zhou) speak Mandarin fluently, upon request, they may be able to provide instruction in Mandarin for your Mandarin learners. Otherwise English will be used.Overall, if you're looking for a well balanced physical activity for your child with the opportunity to learn some self protection and body control, Legend Kung Fu Academy is a great institute to consider!“
“Both of our kids were here for 10 months now. It's been an excellent experience! One of my kid has a learning difference and the master has been taking extra care for him.“
“We have thoroughly enjoyed the experience my son has had here. Mr. RM is helpful and is great with all the kids. At Vision they strive not on success but more on growth and how to achieve success through discipline. I love the fact that the students are evaluated on how they perform at school, at home and at Vision. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!“

3248 S White Rd, San Jose“The best gift I've given myself in a very long time! I started at Choi's back in 1982 as a 12 year old boy, studied there until I went to the military in 87... 35 years later, I came back to the same Dojang, different location, but still the same school. I've been to other schools over the years, but none gave me the same satisfaction as my OG school! Choi's rocks!“
“Sensei Wayne Krill is awesome! He is so well-versed that just by watching your moves for few sessions he can infer specific body types and hence problems you might encounter while mastering various techniques. He comes with a clear agenda everyday and pushes everyone (according to their body types) in a way that doesn't feel overwhelming.I highly recommend this class if you are interested in learning Karate the traditional way.“

785 Morse Ave, Sunnyvale“I moved away from the valley, and after searching-checking to continue practice, I just realized how good the dojo is. All the previous comments have said it all, "this is honestly as good as it gets", ..... It's a non-commercial true shotokan karate practice in a large ballroom gym with many competent, tolerant, kind and considerate high level sensei's (all volunteer) for everyone (kid $20/mo.) If you stumble to this website and live close enough to Sunnyvale and thinking about starting discipline training of any kind, check this out, Tues 7pm, Sat-10am, you will not regret. Almost forgot, it's fun and family feeling too. OSS to all Sensei's.“

492 Mowry Ave, Fremont“Both my kids go to this place for learning life skills. First my son started going here to Lil dragon program and at a time when he could not do any other classes inspite of our efforts at the age of 5. But teachers and program Herr is well paced and meant for all age group and even for young kids. My son started liking this program a lot. Teachers and nice and gentle overall and spend time with kids. My daughter used to go sometime to her brother and she kept on insisting to get in this program. Finally, she joined the program and both of them are very happy, and so are we. I willnstrongly recommend this program to anyone for these reasons 1. Great teachers 2. Adaptive program curriculum that works for all age groups and learning abilities 3. Very good location 4. Very good exposure to competition and other students.“

2410 El Camino Real, Santa Clara“I remember doing some Black Belt training there a couple weeks before 2nd degree test on May 2018. It was a fun experience training there, along with the old Campbell school (massive fan installed on ceiling) a couple months before June 2016 test. I did not remember much, though we did our Choo Moo 4 and West Coast Forms outside in the back (we had to memorize our rows and columns to avoid ruining the black belt show when we perform). I also made some new friends while training. One of them was Leslie representing Berryessa team, a cool and energetic fellow. We both tested for the same belts.“

4040 Papazian Way, Fremont“I have been training at this dojo for 12 years, and I can confidently say that Taekwondo has had a positive impact on my life. Through the life-applicable guidance of Master T and Master Fong's engaging lessons (along with Master Brian), I have learned a variety of techniques, and along with that, I've developed a persistent mindset. In addition to the art itself, I learned about the values that are essential to daily life. Even in my life outside this art (in school or other activity), I value the tenets of Taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. I hope that I use these traits to become successful.I initially joined because my dad wanted me to learn self defense. I was hesitant at first, but now I realize that dedicating more than half my life to Taekwondo is a decision I will never regret.Thank you so much, Martial Arts America! I am honored to be a part of this wonderful community!“

46515 Mission Boulevard, 31832 Alvarado Blvd, Fremont“I was a first degree black belt when I left this place but this place is the best in my opinion. I loved the teachers (master Leo and grandmaster Choi) there. It felt like a second home to me and I truly feel like I have become a better person than I started. It took a lot of perseverance because many people started to quit when it started getting tough, but if you simply keep her head high and strong you are going to power through it and make so many memories along the way. This place is an amazing place and I would 10/10 recommend going here.“
