Love this studio (& the other Sq1 locations as well)! Super down to earth, unpretentious vibe & a very sweet, welcoming community. Beautiful spaces at each studio, each with their own feel. Lots of different classes & workshops to choose from, with a diverse group of teachers - someone/something for everyone!
WELL..I am new to CALI and wanted to find a studio that fits my needs. I arrived about 30 minutes before class but there was no one to check me in or greet me...okey dokey now. I waited till SOMEONE was able to sign me up for the introductory rate. About 5 minutes before class, I had the displeasure of meeting ASHLEY CORRI. She was kind of 'sour' without a hello, a welcome, a tour, a smile; not a good start. So, I signed up and set up for class. The teacher asked the new people their names...except me. I looked around the class and saw that I was the only person of color there...this is somewhat of the norm but ANNE RENE's (instructor) non-acknowledgement of me was an insult. Class started...a decent class. I did feel challenged and present but near the end, we were instructed to try headstands..here comes ANNE RENE and asked if I wanted to try. I told her that I can do a headstand with assistance..then she had the NERVE to walk away and assist others. I was kind of done with this place at this point. I retreated inward and finished the class. I am NOT recommending this studio and once my introductory period has been fulfilled, I am NEVER coming back. (I AM NOT WASTING MY MONEY!) I felt secluded, ignored, and unwelcomed. This is not the goal of yoga which teaches love, compassion, and inclusion for all. Highly offended by this treatment and not much offends me at this age..this did:(
I've practiced yoga for years and, as new East Bay resident, wanted to find a place where I felt most welcomed--a place that was open, inviting, unpretentious and nonjudgemental. I found it at Square One Yoga! There are classes for every level, and I have found the teachers very considerate of everyone's needs. They always provide modifications to the poses they teach, so it can be challenging for all levels (staying true to their saying of "Every body is a yoga body"). On top of this, I've had an very positive experience communicating with Christina about my membership, and she went out of her way to make sure I was able to use the available promotions. In Square One, I feel like I've found a "home".
