“In 2014, we hired Don Waters Construction to do the design and construction of an addition to our house in Albany, CA, adding a bedroom and bathroom. In addition, we had him expand and remodel the existing bathroom in the old part of the house, as well as make some improvements to the kitchen (new granite countertops, tile floor, sink and oven hood). Don had a team of 3-4 people working every weekday, and they completed the six-figure job on budget, on schedule (4 months, as we'd hoped) and with no accidents or unpleasant surprises. Don's crew was reliable and pleasant to be around. Clearly, he takes care to choose and manage his employees. Don also came up with some very creative design solutions to issues that came up along the way (such as where to add closets in small bedrooms so as to maximize living space while providing ample storage). He's got very good problem-solving skills. We have been very pleased with our expanded house. One important aspect of working with Don that may not come through in reviews like this is his integrity. He takes a lot of pride in his work, so when our house recently developed a roof leak at the point where the old roof was joined to the new, we asked him to take a look. Though it was almost six years since he did the addition, and it wasn't clear how much his work may have contributed to the leak, Don got up on the roof, did a water test which pinned down the source of the leak and then personally researched and applied a fix. And refused to accept payment for it! Many contractors would have refused to help us or accept any responsibility for this since it was more than 5 years since the addition was done and the cause of leaks is always difficult to assess with certainty. This is another sterling example of Don's integrity, and also his superior problem-solving skills. We're going to miss having Don and Kim as Albany neighbors and now friends, as they will be moving up to Washington (state) soon. He's made a big contribution to our lives and we highly recommend him for any and all home construction projects.“
