The Glass Man & Sons Windows and Glass Alameda

We broke a tempered glass window on our sailing catamaran a little over 4 years ago. We hired The Glass Man & Sons to replace it, and they did in November 2019. They did a nice job. However, this summer, the adhesive used in the installation had failed and the window became loose. I contacted them, and they were going to re-bed the glass with the same adhesives and process as before. After questioning this, I did a bit of research on the adhesive products, as well as obtained info from the boat builder. Both said to use different adhesive products from the same company. I passed this info on to them, and they dug into it like a junk yard dog. It was a very technical situation, with the type of glass requiring a different group of adhesives and processes. They were in contact with the adhesive company in Europe, and really tried to figure out the correct process for our sailboat. After much back and forth consultation with the adhesive company, I was amazed at how they stepped up and took ownership of the installation, even though it was four years later. They took it as an educational learning experience, and re-bedded the window. They told me that they recently successfully replaced the windshield in a Coast Guard ice breaker, but apparently did not do the right process on our little sailboat. Bottom line is they made it right, and everyone learned something in the process. Their stepping up is very commendable. I have to recommend them highly for any marine glass work. They know their stuff, or if not, they will strive to figure it out.

Their office support can use a bit of work. Initially Email and message through their web, got no response. Called, spoke with Philly, said I'd resend the mail and pics of a glass replacement needed, which I did. Once we got the communication worked out, dropped a patio table off that needed an 8' oval glass replacement. Pricing was not inexpensive, but it was cut perfectly, fit back onto the frame, umbrella hold was centered properly. The finished product was excellent. Why a 4? They need to work on customer communcation. But definitely a 5 on the replacement execution.

In a world where I can't even get returned phonecalls from home contractors, the folks at Glass Man and Sons not only did, they sent out a two-person team to measure all of my windows, then returned when they said to fit the screens in our new home. Everything went exactly as bid, as scheduled (earlier actually), and in each instance, the crew were friendly, professional, and efficient. Thanks Philly & Team for our lovely new window screens. We'll be back when it's time for windows!
