“I walked into Mythic today on a whim, I needed to cut off my dead ends and I googled LGBTQ friendly hair salons in the Birmingham area. I couldn’t be more thankful that I ended up at Mythic with Shai. The atmosphere was immediately welcoming, my first interaction was in the parking lot! I was a walk-in and she immediately got me in for a quick cut. Shai even noticed my anxiety and checked in to make sure I was comfortable. The whole experience was both professional and personable, she asked questions and made recommendations based on my thick curly hair. My hair feels and looks great! To top it off, Shai and I had spoken about my child having some recent struggles with mental health, and she gave me some information on local supports when we were done. This brought me to tears. She has an amazing personality, and she did an amazing job on my hair! My locs were looking dry and brittle at first but she fixed me up and now my locs look completely moisturized and I can definitely see the difference. The ambience is as calm as an Afrocentric spa: soft lofi/jazz playing in the background, essential oils, recliners and hair steamers at the shampoo bowl. Most importantly, they describe your damaged hair in such an educational, uplifting, considerate tone that makes you hopeful over your hair journey! “I have been to Aveda Institue for salon services many times over the years they have been in Birmingham. The good news- It's affordable! The bad news- it's hit or miss, as it depends on the student you are working with. This visit, I was very fortunate to have Emily as my stylist. She provided an outstanding experience, includingwash, special hair mask and blowout. She was efficient and professional. Sadly, as with most students, they graduate and move on the new ventures. Emily is on her way to The Collective. Although the lobby (product show room) and reception area are quite nice, the ambiance in the salon are in need of a serious update. Additionally, many students are sitting around doing "nothing" (talking, on phones, etc) which also takes away from a typical salon experience. I personally had a great experience at Aveda Institute this time. Try it and let me know what your experience is like!“

“They have shop full of barbers. You never have to wait to long. I saw quite a few young children getting haircuts and the barbers were really good with them. I talked to someone waiting and who he uses and he said whoever he has gotten has been very good.“

April was so kind and helpful with my appointment planning and scheduling. And Emma K was just hands down the best hair stylist you could ask for!
