Our 20 year old GE refrigerator was not cooling the frij side although the freezer fan was blowing and the temp control was on 8 and 9. After watching several YouTube videos and reading some articles I took off the back panel in the freezer and discovered the freezer coils were chock a block with ice which meant that the defrost was not working. Further research told me to pour hot water on the coils to remove the ice build up and plug it back in. When I did the temp control panel did not light up but the lights were on inside.
