After being away for six months, I arrived home last week to find that my HVAC system would not work. The fan was unmoveable--frozen solid--and since it is a 20+ year old system, I figured that I would probably, however reluctantly ($10000), finally have to replace it. After checking out the top-rated HVAC companies in Vancouver, I decided to go with Central precisely because it is smaller and I would be dealing directly with the owners responsible for the whole business, rather than with some, perhaps less committed, employee. We obtained three competitive bids to replace our Bryant heat pump and air handler that was finally failing after 23 years of reliable service. I was set on another Thumbtack pro until I received a free estimate and bid from Oleg, one of the Central Heating and Air owners. I then thoroughly research any project of significant expense to compare apples, oranges and kumquats. Central's bid was the best value for an upgraded Bryant system. Bryant is a rebrand of Carrier, one of the oldest and most reliable firms in the business that manufactures in the U.S., Mexico and China. Late last week, we found that our gas furnace wasn't working. We called Central Heating & Air, and they arrived the next morning to diagnose the problem. We have a Home Protection plan, and Vitaly was on the phone with them for about 30 minutes and explained the extent of our problem. We ultimately decided to replace (and improve the efficiency of) the furnace, and Vitaly's phone call locked in a substantial reimbursement from the Home Protection plan.On Monday morning, a team of three from Central Heating & Air arrived, removed the old furnace, and installed the new one.
