I've been studying under Tara for roughly two years now, taking both weekly online classes and her monthly workshops. Even though I live far from the studio I find the drive out to see her worth it. She creates a nurturing environment in her classes, I never feel like she forced me or anyone else into an uncomfortable or dangerous position. She is very understanding of yoga anatomy and how everyone's bodies are different and have different strengths and limitations, and she is able to guide you to your edge while not pushing you past that where you might injure yourself. I always feel very safe and comfortable taking classes with her. She herself is also an active student,...read full review

Highly recommended! I have attended the weekly Zoom class for a couple years now - Tara is very knowledgeable and a steady, inspiring teacher. She uses props and alternate poses to individualize instruction, allowing for physical/body differences. The in-person workshops are engaging & enjoyable. I feel lucky to have found University District Yoga when I was a total yoga newbie!

I have taken gentle yoga classes from Tara Bernstein for several years. She has a dedicated following because of her care and attention to her client's individual limitations and needs. But that doesn't mean she doesn't challenge us! When a class is over, parts of my body that were sore feel much better. Tara has successfully transitioned her class to on-line and I am grateful to still enjoy weekly yoga.

From University District Yoga

Compassionate instruction focused on classical Iyengar Yoga. Tara has been teaching Yoga for over 25 years and is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher(CIYT) as well as a certified Yoga therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapist (IAYT). She has traveled to northern and southern India to study yoga and attended the Iyengar institute in Pune several times. Tara’s teaching style is knowledgeable, patient, firm, challenging and kind. She teaches all ages and abilities, especially those suffering from overall stiffness and other physical imbalances. She enjoys teaching small semi-private classes, because of the individual challenges and solutions that arise during the class. Encouraging students to connect the mind to the body
