Had an appointment and they sent me to a room where they went on to forget about me for 30 minutes. Which was my entire appointment time. One of the worst customer service experiences I have had.
I had high hopes when I learned that Nordstrom offered alterations, and my first visit was before the pandemic. However, the initial experience was not very positive. I scheduled the appointment online, and it directed me to the Will Call area in the Men's department. About 15 minutes after the Will Call staff let alterations know I was there, two women arrived. One appeared to be the manager who was training the seamstress responsible for taking my measurements. I had a sense that I might be inconveniencing the manager, and the seamstress seemed somewhat apprehensive around her. There were a couple of instances where the manager contradicted the seamstress. When they asked me if I preferred machine or hand stitching, I expressed that the machine would be fine. I made a lighthearted comment asking if there was any difference, but neither of them responded. I had three pairs of slacks and a pair of jeans for alterations. The slacks received complimentary alterations since they were new, but I had to pay for the jeans, which was not an issue. A few weeks later, when I received my altered items, I noticed that the hem on the slacks seemed poorly done, which made me question their durability. Approximately a month later, the hems on two pairs of slacks started to come undone. Unfortunately, this happened around the same time as the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. After things slowly started to reopen a year later. I needed alterations for two more pairs of pants, and I decided to give Nordstrom another chance. I brought back the two pairs of pants with the previous hem issues to have them fixed. I mentioned to the seamstress taking my measurements that the hems had come undone a month after the previous alteration. However, she did not acknowledge my comment and charged me to fix them. This time, I specifically requested hand sewing for all alterations. Unfortunately, the hems looked even worse than before. The hem on one pair, in particular, was noticeably poorly done. It was akin to the sewing I had done as a child. Regrettably, the hem came undone again after just a few weeks. In conclusion, if you need your jeans hemmed, Nordstrom does a good job, but for other clothing items, it may be better to go to a tailor. Based on my experience, it has not been a good value for money, even when alterations were advertised as complementary. As a result, I'm considering purchasing a sewing machine.
Elena is THE BEST alterations person you will ever have! I bought a gown from the bridal suite that wasn’t exactly what I wanted, and Elena made so many beautiful alterations that it looked like an entirely different gown. We had so many fittings and I asked so many things of her, and she was always incredibly nice and patient and her work was just PERFECT! Walking down the aisle would have been a completely different experience without her. It doesn’t matter what you need altered, she can do it and you will be so happy with the results.
