I have a 30 year old Larson original gunite pool that needed new plaster and tile. I looked at a number of local services that were all top notch but I decided to go with Dan Rookard and his team based on a friend who had great success with a new pool he built and his honesty with some past work.
Dan was quick to respond, patient as we selected color and tile options, and his team(s) got to work and were done within just a couple weeks of starting. The teams were respectful, clean, on-time, and communicative.
I know there have been some negative reviews of the company, but Dan seems to have cleaned house, put a solid team in place, and has earned our appreciation...read full review
We hired Rookard Pools for our inground gunite pool in 2019. In the Fall of 2019, we had to stop construction for personal reasons, they were to start backup in the spring of 2020. Because of COVID the pool was finally finished July 2020. Workers wouldn't show up on the days we were told they would be there. Nothing was ever their fault, Dan always blamed someone else for the problem, even when we found out one of the skimmers is not working properly. One skimmer is pushing the water into pool and the return jet is sucking the water in so hard if you are by it will suck your swimsuit in. His response was that is impossible. The pool is noticeably lower in one corner and the concrete coping is so pitted it looks terrible. Dan only came to our house 2x during the whole project and never once to make sure things were working properly and not even to investigate the skimmer problem. He has not returned any phone calls or texts for a over a year. He got his money and that is all that mattered to him not the quality of his work. When anyone asks me to recommend someone for their pool, all I can tell them is who NOT to use. I wouldn't even give one star
Chose Rookard Pool after getting a quotes from a number of local companies. The Rookard custom gunite quote was very competitive, even less than the fiberglass option (which is retrospect should have been a warning...). We provided a non-refundable deposit based on the quote provided. There was no info about that quote potentially changing later - either then or later. Rookard later on claimed they had told us that the price could change, they most decidedly did not. We told Rookard we likely wouldn't be ready for another year, which wasn't an issue as they said they had a number of other projects for the upcoming season. We didn't rarely heard from them over the next year, but that was fine with us as we weren't ready. When we reach out about choosing tile for waterline, etc. it was difficult to get a response - but again, since we weren't on a time crunch we didn't worry about it. Then we received a call saying they were ready to go - even though it was still the middle of winter. Seemed strange, but we were at the point in our build where the pool could go in, so we agreed to meet and get going. After setting up a time to meet with the owner at the site for the first time we received an email with updated pricing that was about 20% higher than what we agreed to (and paid the deposit based on). That pushed us to start to solicit other feedback and follow up on the quality of the contractor - the feedback we heard from others was not encouraging. We decided to stop work with Rookard and go with another contractor even though we had to walk away from the deposit. When we asked for our deposit back based on the agree price changing they refused, stating that the deposit was non-refundable. I would highly encourage you reach out to others if your community for experiences working with Rookard ahead of considering them for your pool project (and certainly before paying a deposit).
