“I started this class a 4 foot 10 female who had 4 serious operations. My original 2 goals were to gain back my strength, and learn how to defend myself. Being 4 foot 10 and a female, you get underestimated quickly. The first thing I noticed in my first class was the close to my height female, who was a black belt and defending herself against guys much taller than her (Denise). That was the first sign that I was in the right place. Any woman who wants to gain confidence, and learn how to recognize just how much power she has should join this class, Denise is the best women's self-defense instructor. The second thing I began to hear and notice was that Sensei not only practices karate, he lives and breathes it. It takes dedication to practice something every day for more than 50 years. Along with learning how to defend myself, I started to get the urge to be disciplined and practice. I wanted to be as good as the higher belts that have been under Sensei, learning his dedication to the practice of karate.Wanting to learn, practice, and be good at something is a whole separate other goal from just wanting to learn how to defend myself. I found something that I enjoy doing and want to be better at.But, for someone who may be looking into taking this class just to get out of the house and join a group, this is the best group to join. This isn't just a karate class, it's a karate family. This is a group of people who will be your friend. Everyone in this class is caring. If someone is ill, they check up on them. If someone has a family emergency, they are quick to ask if there is anything they can do to help. And Sensei doesn't just see his students as bodies in the class, he cares for every single one of them along their journey through karate, however short or long it may be.“
“Excellent school & staff! Great culture for young children to learn discipline through fun, rewarding activities!“
“Upon Moving to VA a goal of ours was to make sure our son got an excellent start in Martial Arts. Went on the hunt for a school that we believed would provide the right foundation for our son, one where the dojo was welcoming and harmonious.we literally looked at 5 different dojos before checking out Potomac Kempo, and from the moment we walked in, we knew. This is where our son needed to be, he absolutely loves going to training. The Sensei and instructors are professional and always willing to answer questions. If you are looking for a place for your child and or for yourself to improve, grow stronger, be more focused and achieve goals. Potomac Kempo is the Dojo for you.“
“We have been with Kicks Karate for three years now. We love the spirit of the team there, supporting every child in the best possible way. It has been a lifeline for our kid in Pandemic times!“
“Child is part of the adaptive TKD program. Cannot say enough good things about this program, Master Rome, and the helpers. Thank you!“
“I highly recommend this Shaolin Kung Fu School. Shifu Chris and Weiwei have created a welcoming environment for all. They helped me feel comfortable and keep up with my goal of being strong, fit and confident training with others much younger than me. Check them out - you won’t regret it!“
“This studio is such a find! We tried another martial arts program in the area and found it so impersonal and robotic. Coach Dante, Coach Antonio, and the rest of the staff go above and beyond with their students, building their confidence and encouraging them to push themselves. They also make sure the kids still have fun. This is the first sports program our son is excited to attend every week and it's been awesome to watch him participate. The studio itself was a little hard to track down with Google maps but it's worth seeking out.“
“I go there for taekwondo class and when I first came everyone was nice and kind. I fit in immediately and now I'm a 1st degree black belt.“
“Great place to get your kids trained in self defense. Fees is very reasonable and Marion is a very good Sensei“
“The Black Belt Academy is amazing! All three of my kids attend and they absolutely love it. The instructors are fantastic, providing top-notch training while also fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. My kids have grown not only in their martial arts skills but also in confidence and discipline. The facility is clean and well-maintained, and the class schedule offers plenty of flexibility. I highly recommend the Black Belt Academy to any parent looking for a great martial arts program for their kids.“
“Mr Andrew and the other instructors are amazing. It feels like a small community. It has taught my children confidence and self reliance.“
“Outstanding school. Been studying the martial arts from across the world my whole life and I consider this place a rare gem. Besides their Krav courses, I highly recommend their Saturday Shuai Jiao class. Most people can't handle sticking with Shuai Jiao over the long-term, but if you are one of the few, there are legit fighting skills to be earned in this rare art that is hyper-focused on throwing.“
“Oriental Sports Academy is an excellent martial arts school that serves all ages, from young children to teens to adults. The school teaches four Korean martial arts styles: Taekwondo, Judo, Hapkido, and Sword. It has a before and after school program for kids, as well as summer, winter, and spring break day camps. There are numerous social events that help the students, families, and staff connect with each other, and additional special training opportunities are available. I earned my black belt in Hapkido here, and now my son is learning Taekwondo. We both love OSA!“
“Just an awesome school. Dr Sorbi teaching style is passionate yet relaxed, his experience as a professional educator clearly shows. The club generally, is welcome both to beginners and those with some experience.“
“Sterner's Tae Kwon Do is a wonderful school. Great instructors. Kids love the summer program and after school also. Master Adam is wonderful with the kids and adults. I recommend him to all my friends and children's families.“

“I’ve trained at this academy back in 2005 and they have a solid Wushu experience, to include cultural exchanges in China.“
“My two kids and I have been attending this Taekwondo school for 4 years, and we absolutely love it! The instructors are knowledgeable and supportive, the classes are engaging, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming. We have seen great progress in our skills and confidence since joining. Highly recommend this school for anyone looking to learn Taekwondo!“
“The black belts here are literally cracked out of their minds, their kicks are so fast and they land almost at will. Its not like the average show up and get a little bit uncomfortable type beat. I imagine anyone who comes here and go gym could fold the average timtothy“
“NoVa TSD has been an essential support for the TSD Club I attend in Maryland. Their instructors, out of the goodness of their hearts, have sacrificed their time and energy to help us with our testing and have come up and lead day-long clinics. The love that they have shown us through their knowledge has been an inspiration to me and to my club. I also attend their monthly instructor training and have found it to be extremely helpful for me to develop the holistic approach to martial arts training in mind, body and spirit. I highly recommend any association with these people!Carl S., First Degree Black Belt“
“If you are in DC area and looking for your child to learn all the benefits from Martial Art classes be sure to check out Dietrich Black Belt leadership academy. Who know you might sign up for classes as well.“
“We have tried a lot of activities, but nothing ever seem to stick. That is until we started taekwondo. Master Holder is wonderful with the kids, so motivating! My girls love to go to class and have gone from one day a week to three days a week. They just got there yellow belt and the pride on their faces passing the test was wonderful to see. ! They get a great workout and I can see the difference in their energy and stamina. Couldn't be more excited!“
“My family has attended Focus Family Martial Arts Academy for one and a half years. We enjoy going to class and earning our belts together. The instructors are encouraging and truly care about each member of our family. I also appreciate the focus on character and leadership. They provide positive reenforcement for the values we are teaching at home. Their STORM (Special Team of Role Models) program has helped my children develop leadership skills and gain confidence. Overall this is a top notch and well rounded Karate academy.“
“My 7.5 year olds have been at Kicks Karate for 2 years now in the Little Ninjas program. We all love Kicks. As a parent I love the scheduling flexibility, we can go to any age appropriate class any two days of the week. They are very flexible about make ups, as long as you are within the 8 classes per month. Mr Justin and all the coaches are great with the kids and keep them engaged and developing. I do sometimes wish that the student/assistant instructors would be more proactive about correcting form or movements. We plan on sticking with Kicks for the long haul!“
“My 3 kids have all gone to Mt Kim taekwondo for years and the youngest (5) started later and is still in it. The older two are on pause due to scheduling conflicts. I have nothing but good things to say. My shy one was brought out of her shell through this class and gained confidence in her athletic ability. All of them went willingly and looked forward to progressing to the next tape/belt - a great motivator! All the instructors are so good at getting to know the kids individually and working with them to help them advance. They split the kids up in groups of 3-4 for forms and technique, which is super helpful. I did tkd growing up and think this would have been great if my dojang had the resources tot each us in small groups. Highly recommend Mt Kim.“
