My wife and I were staying at a state park this November. We entertain ourselves (and maybe our campsite neighbors) in the evenings by playing our instruments and singing. My wife needed a capo and picks for her new mandolin, so we did an on-line search for nearby music stores. Rockbridge Music of Lexington Virginia popped up in the search. So we made the 40 minute drive to the historic part of Lexington. As we approached the area we drove through VMI campus area where we saw the cadets and buildings of this historic institution. Inside the music store we were greeted warmly by the owner. She was very helpful and hospitable during our visit. She showed us a selection of capos that would work well for the mandolin. We chose one that fit our needs. She also helped us shop for the heavy picks the wife was interested in. We chose several different ones to purchase. The prices were very reasonable. The owner did a great job assessing our musical interests and steered us towards a series of music books we had never known before. We purchased a Bluegrass and a Christmas volume from this series. After we made our purchases we continued to chat with the lady and discovered she was a musician that plays in bands in the area. We learned a little about the local musical scene. Great service, great selection and good prices! If we are in the area again we'll come back.
The owner has decided to keep the store open! She was considering selling the shop and retiring but decided she loved the store, music, and the people that came in there too much. Rockbridge Music is an institution that deserves our support.
I could not play my acoustic. I didn't know what action and truss rods were, but now I do. Diane lowered the action on my guitar, adjusted to truss rod and I picked it up today. The difference is like night and day. It is simply AMAZING to me that I can now play it. The notes ring true and chords sound like they are meant to. My original action was so high but as a beginner, I didn't know what it means. Now the strings are so close to the fretboard that I don't kill myself pushing them down. Thank you Diana for a professional, effective job - and it is always good to talk to you bout music!
