I’ve been to a handful of Physical Therapists throughout the last couple of years due to a back injury - so I feel I have enough experience at a few places to genuinely comment on the quality of care an establishment gives. Hands down, Physical Therapist Katie W. is an absolute miracle worker. I came in this last Friday with excruciating lower back and hip pain - to the point where I hadn’t been able to sleep more than two hours straight at night or move comfortably at all. The techniques she used during my appointment were nothing short of miraculous in relieving the pain. I’m sitting here right now, pain free. Thanks to her, I actually slept a full night. I really cannot give enough kudos for her incredible skill on how to help people, knowledge of human anatomy, her genuine desire to help - not to mention her incredibly kind personality and willingness to listen. This PT practice and all of the people in it are in my opinion, the gold standard in the industry. I literally am in disbelief at how quickly she helped me to feel better. There’s still work to be done, of course, but I am so taken aback at my overwhelmingly excellent experience there, I felt I had to share. I wish I could give a better rating than 5 stars, 100%, and A+++ because I would!
I am a 57 year old but sometimes I feel I have the tendons and joints of a 90 year old. I have had 7 surgeries so I have had the opportunity to sample numerous physical therapy practices in the area. I stopped shopping around when I found Integrated Sports Medicine in Leesburg. A couple of things really stand out, first, their staff is stable, year after year. Secondly, the therapists really support each other. When I need to see someone else due to vacation or scheduling conflict, the new therapist picks right up like you were seeing her all along. That has not been my experience at other practices. Finally ISM is a teaching practice with interns learning the practical points of their new trade. While Integrated Sports Medicine is a good practice, I have to give a shout-out for Laura Fawcett. I have recommended her and this practice for years. I want to share my experience on my last 3 surgeries. She was working on a TFCC tear in my right wrist and could not get one of my wrist bones to move properly. She is exceptionally perceptive when manipulating joints. After considerable effort without success, she strongly recommended I ask my doctor for an MRI. This was good advice because unbeknownst to me I had somehow damaged the blood supply to my lunate bone and it died due to blood starvation. It was completely asymptomatic to me. My doctor, who had take x-rays, had completely missed it. I was able to get successful revascularization surgery to preserve my wrist function due to an outstanding physical therapist who felt something 'wrong' and had me check it out. My second experience was following a knee cartage tear repair with microfracture. The microfracture technique drills numerous holes in the bottom of the femur to encourage scar tissue to form in the joint. It is used when the surgeon discovers the cartilage has completely worn through. This is very painful and seemed to hurt in a different way each day. Laura would manipulate my knee and listen to my descriptions of how I was doing and would adjust her treatment daily. This provided considerable pain relief since the microfracture was actually more painful than my eventual knee replacement. This brings me to my final experience. Microfracture is only a stop-gap measure to a knee replacement. Laura was my obvious choice for therapy following surgery. As I mentioned above, ISM is a teaching practice. I was initially concerned when Laura introduced me to her intern. I needn't be. I got double therapy as Laura was showing her intern how to rehabilitate a replacement knee. Laura watched me like a hawk. Sometimes from up close, sometimes from a distance but she was always present making suggestions and corrections. When gaining knee flexion which is exceptionally unpleasant, she worked very closely with her intern to make sure I got my range of motion back without any more pain than was necessary. I can't imagine going through that process with someone I did not have complete confidence in. I recently learned you can see a physical therapist without a prescription for a limited time. I have started taking advantage of physical therapy to address lingering issues like a recent pinched nerve due to a displaced L5 vertebrae. Laura provided near instant relief along with some exercises that have kept back happy for months. My past history suggests I will need a physical therapist again. Fortunately, I know who to call.
Very knowledgeable with complete care.
