“I’ve been here twice now. The shop is clean and nicely decorated and the atmosphere is peaceful and professional. The stylists are patient and have gentle hands. The Spirit of God is evident there.During this visit, I received a deep condition and small waist length knotless braids with small parts installed. Not only did they come out beautifully, but I was also able to leave the shop and enjoy the rest of the wonderful weather and daylight with my family which is unusual for me when receiving this hairstyle.When you find good stylists you know. “I live in DC. I hate to say it....but I haven't found a single barbershop that can execute a flawless burst fade AND curly cut, AND cut a mohawk...without: 1) making me look like a boy 2) giving me the most unwelcome, unwanted mullet 3)making it look like an elementary school student executed my cut. So I was on the HUNT. Listen, my vanity knows no distance parameter. I'll do what I need to do. I was moments away from booking a flight back to my previous state just to go get my damn haircut...and that's when I stumbled on Nguyen. FLAWLESS. I (non creepily) observed this man as he worked on the client before me. He is FOCUSED. He's paying attention to detail, he is executing his craft. When I popped up for my appointment, he was so welcoming and friendly. Very approachable. I am NOT the best at describing what I want, but for someone who is clueless on terminology, boooy do I know how to talk a lot about what I like and don't like. Patience of a GOD this man has. First of all...a barber that knows how to fade, edge, line you up...FLAWLESSLY AAAAAAAAAND cut your damn hair too?? And not just your damn hair, but your damn, curly hair?? Done. Take all my money. I WILL be driving here every 6 weeks for the 2 hr drive so that I can get my hair done by this fellow. He can do it all!!! Ok about the shop. This is the exact vibes you want in a shop. Funny, chill, hilarious men just cutting it up with clients, regulars, and one another. Good music playing. Impeccably designed shop. Now one hilarious thing that I wasn't expecting, is when my very, dressed in all black, leather pant clad, service dog toting, silver earrings of upturned middle fingers walked in...no exaggerating, the shop went from laughing and chatting...to straight silence. And for one teeny tiny second I was like...oh nooooo, is this one of those shops that doesn't really welcome women? I've gotten my hair cut all around the world and in the US and have been to my fair share of ppl making me feel like an alien for being in a primary male-space shop. But this wasn't that vibe AT ALL. I honestly think that I can have an intense look and it took em' of guard for a second lol. One of the guys, about 10 min later was like--you have an appt? I nodded and smiled and he said, "I know we didn't say anything when you walked in..." y'all I cracked up. Not for one second, even with the silence, did I feel unwelcomed. And that's bc these guys are all heart and kindness. Legit. And at the end they were all saying how great my cut looked. And they weren't lying bc Nguyen did his THING. I watched as every single person walked out with just BEAUTIFUL, stunning, Soooooooooo sickly good fades and cuts. Ugh!! Chefs kiss!! Come here. Drive here. It is WORTH ITTTTT. Oh!! And I noticed another woman come in after me too!! So they DEFINITELY have female clientele.“

“Yesterday afternoon, 4 January, was my first visit to Gabe's and the entire experience was very good. I plan on continuing to visit, most likely in late February, to see Sarah, for another hair-trim and neck shave. The shop atmosphere is excellent, since it attracts a healthy mix of all kinds of people, and the floors are regularly swept up when the techs finish each customer. The shop faces South, so the sunshine is definitely an additional blessing for those of us with a little S.A.D. going on during the Winter Solstice period. Gabe himself will come in on Thursday mornings between 8 and 10, but you might want to schedule a cut, since he will depart promptly at 10:00. And finally, the price for me was reasonable, which enables leaving a good tip.“
