Before starting this review, I have to apologize to Mr. Gleaton. He and his team finished a complete renovation of our 3900 sqft home two years ago and I forgot to thank him with a review. I’m sorry Daniel, it just completely slipped my mind to do so. Hopefully, the following will help make up for my oversight. In May 2021 my wife and I found a two-story colonial home in the Algonquin Park neighborhood of Norfolk on the banks of the Lafayette River. Although in good condition, it was 40+ years old and dated. After reaching out to six known building contractors to renovate this home if we were to buy it, we received only one response, and that person said they could start in six months and it would take eight months to complete. That was ridiculous and a non-starter. We then posted a message on Nextdoor asking for builder references. Thank goodness several recommended Gleaton Construction. Daniel Gleaton responded to my email within a day, met us at the house a few days later, gave us an estimated cost, and said he and his team would get started within five days after we closed on the property. This was going to be a huge job and Daniel warned us not the type of job he usually undertook. His specialty was kitchens and bathrooms and not an entire house, like what was needed, but he was willing to accept the challenge. A month later we closed on a Monday and true to his word Daniel and company were on site by Friday. As I said, this was a huge job. The house had the usual living/dining/family rooms, kitchen and utility rooms, three bedrooms, four full baths, and a large bonus room over a two-car garage. All the electrical wiring and plumbing was replaced or new added; the baths and kitchen were all gutted and updated; the wood floors throughout were sanded and stained; and the entire house, inside and out, was repainted. Expected to take 4-5 months it actually took six, primarily because of material shortages which the entire industry was experiencing. Even so, Daniel and his team were on site almost every day until it was time for us to move in. And then returned immediately to handle any punch list issues that came up. Cost? Needless to say, it cost us several hundred thousand dollars to complete the process. But in the end the total was only $10,000 over Daniel’s original estimate, and part of that was due to upgrades we added mid-construction. We were so fortunate to have found Daniel and Gleaton Construction. They turned this older house into one that is now as new as if it had been recently built from the ground up. The quality and care they took during construction is second to none and we’re very happy with the results. So, if your home needs updating, or just a few changes, we highly recommend calling Gleaton Construction. I think the highest praise someone can give a business is whether or not they would use them again. In our case, if we were ever going to make changes, big or small, to this house or another, we would call no one but Daniel. Donald and Barbara Levering Norfolk, VA
