Like a lot of other folks, this time of year (HOT!) is brutal especially when your AC isn’t quite doing its job. Yesterday evening our inside temp was 83. I called Matt Shirley at Lone Star Heating and Air and 6 pm on a Sunday and he was here by 7:30, exactly when he said he would be here (he was on a call). Responsive, friendly, professional and a productive AC unit happened fast. FIVE STARS for sure.

I could not be more highly impressed with the work Jon and Brandon did on my HVAC today. Here’s my tale: Early last week I started noticing a faint whiff of woodsmoke smell in my bedroom, which is directly under the HVAC unit in the attic. In the wee dark hours Thursday morning, I woke up and realized I hadn’t been imagining it, and it wasn’t faint any more. It was coming through the vents. I cut the HVAC breakers and spent a sleepless rest of the night. After reading reviews, it was clear that Lone Star was my best choice. I called shortly after 8 a.m., when the office opens. Jon talked with me and arrived at my door at 8:45. He immediately diagnosed the problem as a UV coil sanitizer that had burned all the way out, yet still had power continuously applied. He disconnected the sanitizer unit so that there would be no fire hazard pending installation of a replacement bulb. Because the HVAC had not been maintained in an unknown number of years, the MERV 16 filter was very dirty as well. Jon also recommended that we have our ducts cleaned, as that had not been done in a very long time. Jon and Brandon arrived promptly—they were even early—this morning, as scheduled, and got to work. They are both friendly, polite, and very considerate. They helped me cover surfaces that might receive debris from the duct cleaning, carefully vacuumed up the floors afterward, and moved furniture back into place for me. Best of all was that the duct cleaning included application of an antimicrobial, antibacterial spray to the coils and ducts. For the year-plus that I’ve been here, the house has had a lingering musty smell that has been very difficult to address. I am strongly allergic to molds and mildew, and because of what had been festering on the duct walls and coils, I had been unable to breathe through my nose inside the house. This spray will last for six months, and beyond that, the newly functional UV coil sanitizer will keep the coils clean so that the duct walls stay that way as well. I can breathe now, and to my astonishment, the house smells GREAT—clean and fresh. It’s like walking into a hotel room. I am extremely pleased with their work, and feel that the price was reasonable. I also would like to recommend Lone Star’s service plan, which is a solid good value, and to thank Jon for explaining it to me. I would never have known about it, and it has already paid for itself in parts discounts. Lone Star has my highest recommendation and I feel very fortunate to have had them do this work.
