I had no vision issues until I turned 48, when I found out that I had keratoconus in my right eye. The normal cornea is round, like a basketball, but this issue is the bulging of the cornea so that it is shaped like a football. I previously had a cross-linking procedure that halted the progression of the affliction, but the vision in that eye continued to degrade year over year, requiring a new prescription and new glasses every year.
