We have enjoyed Robert Suits both as an honest individual businessman and personally. He is frank and honest which are traits that are not as common today as when we were younger. I used the internet to evaluate a number of companies with a list of questions about pricing. Robert was one of the few who would really quote a price until they get there even for simple questions like what is the price of a pound of Freon. Good people and good work.

It was 22 degrees in December, 2011, and the furnace stopped working. First, the repair man quickly diagnosed the thermostat to be working properly and then checked the furnace and blower. Even though the dryer and oven and for that matter every other electrical appliance was operating fine, the furnace, which operates at 240 volts, wasn't. But why were the oven and dryer working, if they operate at 240 volts, but not the furnace or blower? He tested the furnace and blower and found no voltage there at all. He then tested the voltage at the circuit panel, and was able to see that there was no voltage on one of the phases at the circuit panel, which is why the furnace wasn't operating at 240 volts. He called an electrician, who said that an oven and dryer, which both have 240 volt plugs, can also operate at 120 volts, though with little to no heat. The furnace and blower cannot operate at 120 volts. So, in fact, nothing was operating at 240 volts. I would never have known that, and just assumed the furnace was bad. He then deduced that it was a problem with the power company's transformer, and we then looked at the electric meter on the side of my house. Sure enough, it was blank and not showing any numbers. He suggested that I call Garland Power and Light (GPL), which I did. He only charged me $75, which is the cost of a service call anyway (though I had a coupon for a free service call with any repair). He offered 30% off on installation of a heat pump or a newer A/C unit, which would probably save me money on my electric bill, but also told me he didn't see anything wrong with my existing furnace when he opened it up-nice to know he was honest. P.S. The GPL tech arrived in minutes and tried to reset one of the circuit breakers inside the transformer, which sparked like crazy. He told me the transformer is now dead, and would have to be replaced. Within probably 30 minutes, 3 more GPL trucks were here with a crane and a brand new transformer. From the time the tech diagnosed the bad transformer to restoration of power was about 90 minutes, which I thought was very quick. Trust me, it took four men, and it was very delicate and dangerous work. I was very impressed with GPL.
