As visionary author Arthur C. Clarke wrote in 1962, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." I have experienced magic this month. I'm 66, and have worn glasses or contact lenses since I was nine. I've been blessed with good eye health, but have followed the typical path to bifocals. This month my ophthalmologic surgeon simultaneously cured my mild-to-moderate cataracts and installed a pair of high-tech trifocal lenses where the blurry flesh & blood lenses had been.
