I just went for my first cut. I walked in on a Friday afternoon without an appointment. I was seated immediately. I was with the father, Marcial. I explained a few concise points of my cut, and he got right to it. I wondered if I made myself clear enough. Let me say that even though my cut is pretty simple, it's amazing how hard it is to get what I want at many places. I can tell them and even show pictures of myself with the cut I want, still, I often won't get it. I think some barbers just have a handful of cuts they repeat like muscle memory and you're going to get one of those no matter what you say. And even if they get it right, good luck consistently getting the same thing, even from the same person. It just shouldn't be that hard for a simple cut like mine. When he finished and put the mirror up to my head, I prepared myself to think and say what I always do. First, that it's wet and been combed in a way I don't comb it, and the mirrors change the perspective and it doesn't look right to me, because it never does, even if the cut is right. I have to go home, wash and brush it and see it in my mirror with a full reset before I know if its the right cut or not. I don't view this as the barber's fault, just the way it always is. But (second) what I say is, that looks good or great, thanks. Then if it needs to be different the next time, I bring that up the next time before the cut. But this time, I don't know how, it was perfect. It looked exactly the way I wanted it to, and while still in the chair. I was impressed and happy with the cut to say the least, and almost bewildered that it looked perfect in the chair. That seems to say something above the rest somehow. He's doing something different, and great. The only things left to see is that I can get that result consistently, and that he doesn't act crazy at some point. I can tell though, that by the way he cut, he does that perfect every time. And, he doesn't talk much, so I think there is little chance of some crazy interaction. I think there is a slight language barrier. I do enjoy conversation, but ultimately, it's going to get into politics, religion, or some place where there are going to be major disagreements and/or personality conflicts that arise, so probably this limited discussion is a good thing that will avoid problems and keep me coming to see him regularly for a long time to come. Been getting my haircut here for years. Love this place. Great haircuts and great customer service! What I love best about this place is that they actually stay open and work until their closing time, unlike several other places I know. They say they close at a certain time and stop at least an hour before using the excuse of appointments. If you want a walk in place that actually stays open until they say they doand a great haircut, this is the spot!
My husband has been getting his haircut with Abner for about two years. Abner always does a great job. His attention to detail and expertise is evident. My husband gets a haircut and beard trim, I love how his beard looks afterwards.
