So I'll start by saying I didn't hire this company, the work with the builder of my home. My builder allowed me to choose my own stain so I met with Perkins. The people in office were very friendly. I told them I loved the natural look of my floors which, unfinished, where a white oak with great variation. To achieve this as a finished look, they recommended I do a water based poly finish and no actual stain. The guy at the office was very confident they wouldn't yellow because of the water based poly... or at least yellow very minimally. He even showed me an example of a test they had tried this on and after four years it was still very crisp with almost no yellow. Great! I paid almost $2k for the "upgrade" and was told this would, in addition to not yellowing, actually be more durable then regular poly and better for dogs because it was more scratch resistant. Fast forward.. I've been in my home two years and everything the claimed to be so true about this product they upsold me on is wrong! My floors have yellowed significantly and in spots that get a lot of light have water almost look like water stains. Not only that, my floors scratch SO easily and damage even easier. Late one night my partner spilled a few drops of laundry detergent on the floors without realizing it and the next morning I have dark brown stains where the detergent was. On top of all that, the floors themselves are terrible. They chip like there's no protective poly at all (and makes me wonder if they're using quality wood flooring if it chips so under normal wear). I've tried to reach out to them about issues but because they get so much work from my builder who I had a dispute with, they won't even return my calls. No idea if they warranty their work because I can't get a response. If you have a choice, I'd go elsewhere.
We had an amazing experience with Perkins. They were quick, efficient, gave us a clear instructions, and finish the job sooner than expected under budget. No way we could ever ask for more! We love our new floors.
I believe the other 5-star reviews on here, so I'm not sure why my experience was so different. While I believe he did a good job on refinishing my hardwoods (with the exception of leaving dark stain splotches in multiple places on my white baseboards), the installation of luxury vinyl tile was definitely not five-star work. I had a variety of other issues as well - a lengthy detailing of those issues with accompanying photos can be found at southernoaksreview.blogspot.com.
