Part 2 After all the trouble on the first week, with pretty much nothing happening except for the painting I had to fix on my own and all the outlet and switches and closet racks being removed I felt it would be best if we rescheduled the remainder of the work once we finished moving out here in March and that I needed to get back home earlier to be with my family. James said he understood and that he would come out Monday to put the outlet/switch covers back on throughout the house and he would help me finish installing a exhaust fan in our master bath. (He helped wire it almost getting shocked twice and popping the breakers) he helped hold it while I installed it to 2x4s in the attic. Before they left I told them when we would be out here and that I wouldn't have to start work until the end of March and would like to get the other stuff done that was on the contract, and the say not an issue. They asked for me to reach out with the dates to align our schedules. Well when trying to do that, they keep telling me that they had our jobs going on at that time and they didn't think they could fit me in. Keep in mind they already have $6100 from a check that they have already cashed. I told they that it would be best to part ways since this whole thing has been a headache to begin with. Since they said in writing that they shouldn't have taken the painting job portion before they new that they couldn't do the job and that they would not charge two days labor and not charge materials, that I would only loose out on the $500 non refundable deposit and the rest should be returned! Well instead they send a cancellation letter chargi g for all the materials and labor (rate of $75/hr couldn't help but laugh at that price) for hours they weren't there four and the rental fees for tools that they left at my house with nothing in writing about that. This letter said that out of the $6100 that was paid to them that I would receive a certified check of about $2900 back. So I took them to small claims court, where I was awarded a $3500 judgment. I tried contacting many times about getting the payment and I heard nothing from them. After lots of research from family members we were able to find out who they were bonded with (this was very difficult considering they did have to give me that info according to the judge). I filed a claim and I also tried to reach back out to them to get what was owed. I told them to stop play games and to give back the money and that this pretty much makes them thieves. Well James didn't like that, he told me stuff like ok Nancy and called me a boy and to go F*** off and to just go through the bond company. Well once their bond company reached out to them they were all nice in emails and they tried sending $50 a month check (equals 6 yrs of payments) because they were broke. They spent money that wasn't there's. That payment plan did not work and lucky the bond company cut us a check for the full amount that was owed. This was many months of lots of digging and time wasted, but was at least able to get what was owed. Note this is not all of it, but pretty much most of the details, pretty much if you want to go through this them they are right for you. Glad for this to be over. They say that they went out of business, but still be weary if you come across them or a James Williams or Brooke Williams, scammers all day!!!
One year later and the contractor still did not finish the job. Kept coming up with excuses (including saying traffic was to heavy to come to the job site). One year later and the floor is buckling in the basement they remodeled and the wall plates for the electrical outlets are no longer flush to the wall. Terrible workmanship.
We hired James with JPW Custom Renovations to build a covered patio along with a door and window replacement in August 2019 that he claimed In his interview that it would take 2-3 weeks. We had to pay $9k up front, then 3 weeks later another $9k towards the balance of approx $31k. 2 weeks into the job he took a week off claiming part of his labor quit so it would take longer, then again when he couldn't find the right product and materials, then again when our pool guy was in his way, again when His main guy walked off the job, etc. On and on, excuse after excuse. "Longer" apparently means more than 5 months. He claimed he would return when the roof material was delivered. After 5 weeks of no roof delivery I called the roof company he said he used and they said he never ordered it. Apparently he was using that excuse to buy time to do other jobs while keeping us waiting. Nov 22 he claimed he would return Monday and never returned. We paid him over $18k in deposits for a half completed job. Our permit expired...etc After 5 mos of living under construction, in Jan 2020 we got an Attorney for Contractor Abandonment and fired him. Other Contractors didn't want to touch his work bc it was done sloppy and incorrectly, poor craftsmanship, and they felt it was a liability. Several items have had to be taken apart and rebuilt. After leaving our back patio and yard a complete mess, several HOA complaints, complaints to the City about the trash and debris, etc He didn't care and smarted off not caring about the situation he had left us in. Not once did he apologize! We tried to be patient but his last response was "I told you already, I don't know when I will be back" We lost thousands of dollars in our deposit and 5 months of not being able to use our back patio, not to mention having to pay someone else to come correct his mistakes and finish the job. Horrible experience! We have Photos and text conversations to prove it.
