I went through a several year long experience with major depressive disorder, which included self harm. I was fortunate to receive the help I needed and rebuilt my life, but one unfortunate side effect of that time was scarring. I had several scars and they often attracted unwelcomed comments, looks and opinions. I grew to hate looking at them. I went to Lemuel to cover them with a tattoo. The first day I worked with him went really well. He was understanding and appeared as a talented artist. After looking at scars for 10 years, I finally was able to appreciate my body and not look at it in disgust. He was also pleased, because he used my before and after pictures to attracts business for cover ups. I returned to Lemuel a second time to add on to the initial tattoo. This day did not go as well as the first. He would not sketch out what I was asking for this time, kept insisting to trust him as he drew an outline with a marker on my body. He kept assuring me he had this. He did such a great job the first time I told myself to let my guard down. Wrong move. He started to add more leaves the the floral part, which wasn't at all what we discussed. He laughed and said "oh you caught me". He focused back on the I requested birds again and they were not even close to what I was asking for. I immediately had to stop him before he went further. The more I tried to communicate with him, the more he appeared flustered and the worse it got. He also increased how much he was smoking to try and cope with the tension. I had him do something completely different just to cover up the horror on my arm again. I left there so disappointed to say the least. Not only did I not receive a tattoo remotely close to what I was asking for, but all the upset of him disregarding what I was saying and now having the permanence of this day on my arm. So much for waking up happy with my body again. I pursued laser treatment to try and remove the botched up part of the tattoo. After 10 sessions, which cost 1,250, and over the course of 2 1/2 years, I was able to remove about 60% of his errors. My body was no longer responding to the treatments. I now spent $140 today covering it up with the actual tattoo I wanted to begin with. My awful day getting tattooed by Emmanuel turned into a $1390, and 2.5 year stressful situation that I hope to help other customers avoid.
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Unfortunately there were no prior reviews on his shop except on his website where he probably wrote them himself. First of all it is located in a single rented room that is very cramped and cluttered. The artist arrived 15 minutes late to the shop and did not even bring anyone back for another 45 minutes. He brought two other people with him who were very creepy and obviously high. He himself wasn't sober either. At first glance the first two tattoos he did were decent until you actually looked at the shotty line work. He proceeded to go out for a smoke break between every tattoo for at least 15 minutes and continued to get more and more f****ed up. The third tattoo he did was in white ink and was a simple block letter T. He had to go over it 8 times because it was white ink and did not have a single straight line by the end of the tattoo he had eight lines that weren't even close to being in the same spot with gaps in between them. The tattoo was not symmetrical and could have looked better if a child had done it. My tattoo was last and it was supposed to be just an outlined tattoo but his hand was shakier than before and the lines looked nothing like they should have. I asked him to stencil the tattoo but he was so convinced that it was an easy tattoo that he could freehand that he felt he didn't need to. He proceeded to screw the entire thing up. I tried to have him correct his lines and he started shading to try to cover up his crooked lines but you could still see the messed up lines underneath. I am glad that I called beforehand and got a quote because he wanted to overcharge me. He proceeded to call me the next day asking if I wanted to set up an appointment because he forgot that I had come in the day before even though we were his only customers.
