The Philadelphia Film Center, formerly known as the Prince Theater, is a film-focused venue in Center City, Philadelphia. It became the exclusive hub for film programming in 2019, hosting first-run and independent films as well as an increased curated program. The theater is an ideal venue for film festivals, such as the Philadelphia Film Festival, due to its old-school charm and appreciation for cinema. The Film Center is managed by the Philadelphia Film Society, a group of film enthusiasts who prioritize a superior cinema experience. The venue boasts excellent sound design, top-tier projection, and a well-maintained screen. Staff members are friendly and solution-oriented, often going the extra mile to resolve any issues. While there are minor drawbacks, such as occasional unanswered phone calls or emails, improper film masking with manual side curtains, and the absence of recliners, the overall experience is positive. Movie-goers can enjoy a variety of film classics on film and digital 4K. One aspect that could be improved is the quality of the popcorn, as some customers have reported cold, chewy popcorn at a premium price. Despite this, the Film Center has earned praise from members and non-members alike for its film selection, friendly staff, and local charm.
