Everybody does tremendous job on men's and women's hair to come out looking beautiful when you're a woman and handsome if your man they do awesome jobs on children also
Four barber chairs and a beauty parlor in the back room. Toupees fitted and sold. Friendly, neighborly place. "Gene" Italo Costanzo first cut my hair when I was a kid, Eisenhower was about to leave office, and Philly had 30% more heads to barber than it has today. Over the course of the next decade Gene worked at a couple of neighborhood barber shops. I moved away. Several decades later I was back in town and started going to his current location, by then long-established. Gene always gave a good haircut (as did the other barbers he employed), and I liked it that he reminisced about me as a kid, and my cousins and nephews who'd been his customers over the years-- even the bald one who spent so very little time in the chair! In recent years I've taken one of my kids to Gene's. Gene has strong opinions about The Right Haircut. There was a year when he always wanted to cut my hair one way, but I insisted on something else! (I think now he was probably right.) Good barbers: Gene; the lady from Frankford with the long wavy hair; the ancient guy who opened the shop at 4 a.m. so he could serve the early-morning delivery men and be home during the day to nurse his ailing wife...
