It has been several years since a vet at Best Friends pushed me to euthanize my cat. My poor kitty struggled against it. She ran away. I was crying. The vet should have said it was okay to wait. I've since worked with vets much wiser and now know the process is supposed to be smooth and gentle. I write this so they might learn something. If a cat and owner are not ready or seem highly confused, tell the owner it's okay not to proceed. I would have gladly paid the fee and waited until my cat and I were ready. This traumatic experience has haunted me for years. Here's the kicker. This vet was not my normal vet. She knew nothing of my cat's medical history. She just seemed in a rush to do it and leave.
This veterinarian is the most unprofessional, immature, narcissistic person I have ever experienced in my life. She constantly demeans her staff, yells at them, throws things at them, and throws things towards the animal patients.I have no idea how she got licensed, but she needs to go back to kindergarten where she can learn how to treat people correctly and learn decent, proper manners. I will never ever ever! Refer someone to this veterinarian or her practice. To top it off, her husband is the HR personnel, so there is no avenue to be able to talk some sense into this wicked practioner.
Yesterday, March 10,2023 I made an initial appointment for one of my 4 Alaskan Malamutes with Best Friends. Initial visits are $60; about the same as my long-time veterinarian, Animal Hospital of Grants Pass (AHGP)...today I cancelled this appointment. Unlike Dr. Webster at AHGP, who admits animals and owners inside to consultation/treatment rooms now that officially the COVID19 epidemic is over, Best Friends only offers "curbside" appointments. I don't mind "curbside" when ordering a burger from some fast-food burger joint, but I draw the line with curbside animal care...not my animals anyway! I see such impersonal care from out in the parking lot, instead of inside the clinic as purely a business decision; cutting quality of care inside the office replacing it for curbside care, to me is not much different than my doctor's appointments being out in the parking lot instead of inside his office. Now that COVID19 is mostly behind us, with few exceptions masks are no longer required in public places, even at the local 24-hour emergency veterinarian facility. And even where masks are still required medical care is not rendered in parking lots! "Wear masks, but come on inside." Thus I see this "curbside only" as a business decision, decreasing in-office quality of care exchanging it for squeezing in a few more patients out in the parking lot each day. Possibly this fast-food approach to care for their animals is acceptable to most folks around here...not for me, and definitely not for my furry family members!
